TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS !! NOTE CHANGE OF ROUTE: Saturday 22 April 2023 - DEVILS PEAK (Tafelberg Road)

Dear Trailers

Unfortunately Tygerberg Nature Reserve was temporarily closed earlier this week for emergency maintenance and it does not seem likely to be open for tomorrow, so we have had to select an alternative route. This is a new route and there will be a bit of exploring involved, please bring your sense of adventure.

Route Details (see attachment)
Starting point is the Devils Peak Hiking Trail near the end of Tafelberg Road, drive about 2km passed the lower Cable Station.

We start by zig-zagging up to the contour path/Oppelskop intersection, and then continue up towards the Saddle. The paths are well sign-marked. There is some tough climbing ahead but will eventually level out leading us passed the Newlands Ravine intersection until we get to a T-junction, giving us time to catch our breath and admire the views across to Lions Head and the Atlantic Ocean (weather permitting). From here we do an out and back to the Peak before continuing over the ridge.  At the next junction groups can decide which route to continue on, there are options to Mowbray Ridge/ Blockhouse for a bit more distance.

The relaxed group will head down and join up with the contour path, meandering around the bottom of Oppelskop and back to the starting point, doing about 9km (if we opt not to add on) but there will be lots of climbing to keep our legs entertained.

There will not be a walking group.

Rendezvous and Start Time
Meet at the start of the Devils Peak Hiking Trail, Tafelberg Road, at 06h50 ready to start 07h00.

What to bring:
Water, whistle, warm, wind, waterproof top depending on weather (looks like the rain has shifted earlier so please do come prepared) plus your space blanket and ICE information.

Important
This is a pack run with regular regroups. We usually split into two or three pace groups with group leaders indicated on the day. Leaders of each group will ensure that no one is left behind. Remember to look behind you at every turn on the route to ensure the people behind you see which way to go.

Reminder: if you are not feeling well please fight the FOMO and rather stay home for your own health and those around you.

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

See you tomorrow

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 22 April 2023 - Tygerberg Nature Reserve

Happy Monday Trailers!

This week for a change of scenery we are heading north to the Tygerberg Nature Reserve. Please note there is a R20 entrance fee, R10 for students and pensioners with proof.

Route details
The park is not big but there is some good single track and elevation for us to zig and zag around with gorgeous panoramic views.
We will start off with an up (of course) taking the 2nd path right (upper tortoise route) and wiggle our way to the radio tower and then right down Watsonia.  Take a right onto Grey Rhebok down and then over the rump to Honey Badger.  Left on Ukhetshe we will follow the path back round until we get to the Golden Mole intersection where we'll go right and wiggle waggle with the lower mole back to the visitors center.  This takes us to about 9,5km so just for a little more distance we'll pop across to lower Tortoise and loop on Duiker around the small dam and forest area.

All in all, it will probably be around 11/12km and about 2.5 hours max.

Walking group will be confirmed on Friday.

Rendezvous and Start Time

The park only opens at 07h30 so meet at 07h20 at the main entrance parking lot, ready soon after 07h30. Parking lot is at the end of Totius Street, Welgemoed and does fill quickly. Directions are a little complicated, so best use your GPS and allow 35 - 45 minutes from the southern suburbs.
