RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 28 November 2020 - Kalk Bay into Silvermine East

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we explore Silvermine East starting from Kalk Bay.

.

Route

We park in the parking at Kalk Bay Station next to Cape to Cuba. We bounce up the stairs to Boyes Drive and cross the road to wind our way up Weary Willy's. From Weary Willy's junction we all go straight up Echo Valley.

At the top the medium and relaxed group will turn right to the amphitheatre and the fast group will turn left to go around on Dead Man's Path.

Relaxed group: Go through the amphitheatre and down the Crassula Path to the jeep track. Turn right and follow the jeep track turning right at the junction which will take you all the way back to Weary Willy's where you make your way back down to the cars – around 8km

Medium group: Go through the amphitheatre and down the Crassula Path to the jeep track. Turn right and then left at the first single track to the next jeep track. Turn right on to the jeep track and then right again on to the jeep track at junction pool. Just before Nellie's Pool turn right on to the single track, cross the jeep track and continue through Speciosa Valley, past Tartarus cave and then left down Spes Bona Valley back to Weary Willy's and back to the cars – around 10km

Fast group: Coming off Dead Man's Path continue straight on the jeep track and cross above the waterfall and turn right on to the next jeep track. After 300m turn left on to single track which comes out at Junction Pool. Here there is the option to follow the medium group route or visit Muizenberg Cave and follow the jeep track to Weary Willy's and home – around 12km

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at 6:25am at Kalk Bay station parking. We start running at 6h30am

Terrain and distance
Undulating single track and jeep track with an uphill from Kalk Bay to the amphitheatre junction.

RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 21 November 2020 - Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers!

Our run tomorrow is ON. Weather looks good – not too hot and a gentle wind but please always come prepared for all weather.

There will be NO relaxed or walking group.

But the medium group may well split into 2 and do both routes.

See you there

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 21 November 2020 - Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we go up Table Mountain via Corridor Ravine to get to the 360 degree view from Grootkop. Back down Kasteelspoort.

.

Route

We park on Theresa Ave in Camps Bay – See directions below – and go up the jeep track keeping right until we reach the Pipe Track

We turn right and run along the Pipe Track, passing Woody Ravine until we take a left turn up Corridor. Once at the top we turn right and follow the track to Grootkop, turning right off the track to get to the top

After admiring the view, we re-trace our steps passing Corridor – possibly deviating to Tranquillity Cracks (time dependent) – till we get to Kasteelspoort where we descend to the Pipe Track and back down the jeep Track to the cars

For those that don't want to do Corridor and Grootkop, a shorter option is to go up Woody, turn left and go down Kasteelspoort. Also a good route.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:25am at Theresa Ave. We start running at 6h30am

Terrain and distance
Mostly single track except for the trek up to the pipe track. A climb to the top, flowing single track with a short climb to the top of Grootkop

The route is around 11km with the Woody Ravine option around 7km. The climbs take time so be sure to factor this in.

Groups
We will split into speed groups and possibly smaller groups as per regulations (keeping each other in sight) - with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday

Good Morning Trailers

This Saturday we head to the forest to run a TMT version of the Baby Beast.

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the parking area Newlands Fire Base 06:25 ready to start at 06:30.

Route details

Meet at the Newlands Fire Base parking (not Forries).

We warm up by heading in the direction of Kirstenbosch Gardens and turn up near the boundary.  We won't head all the way up to the contour but stick to the lower trails as we head in the direction of the blockhouse. We turn back above hospital bend, taking the lower road above Rhodes Memorial and head back to our cars.

Route may vary to the actual Beast route as the paths in Newlands Forest move often.

Please remember this a pack run, and its important that we look out for each other.

Terrain and Distance

Mostly forest paths and some jeep track.  Previous map, profile & GPX of the race attached for reference.

Distance: +- 12 kms taking about 2 - 2.5hrs for Medium Group

Relaxed Group to be confirmed on Friday.

*Please note adjustments to the route may be made whilst running depending on the group and weather conditions.

Please bring:

A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 10km can take longer than a road 10km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on our runs.

Hello Trailers!

This week we'll take a climb up Cecilia Ridge and check the water levels in the dams.

Brief Description of Route
We'll take the steps up from the carpark and keep following the trail up until we reach the upper contour path. Then we continue up Rooikat Ravine, passing the waterfall, until we reach the bottom of Cecilia Ridge. We turn up the ridge and pop out close to De Villiers Dam/the Overseers cottage. We'll then take the Ash Valley path to the dams, and head back down the road, zigzagging our way down, either via the jeep track almost to the Nek, where we'll dip into the cork forest alongside Rhodes Drive and back to the cars. Alternatively, we can dip into the trees and wind our way down the 'shortcut' path.
The longer faster group may extend the route by taking a trip all the way around the dams.

Rendezvous and Start Time

Cecilia Parking Area just off Rhodes Avenue at the top of Hohenort Avenue, 6:20 ready to start at 6:30am.

Terrain and Distance
A mix of single track and jeep track with a good amount of elevation. Distance 12-14kms which should take between 2 and 2.5 hours.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket if applicable, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack. Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.
