Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2023 - LAST RUN OF THE YEAR
To: Tmtrailers <tmtrailers@googlegroups.com>

Hi Trailers!

Saturday 9th December sees us meet for our last official sortie of 2023. We'll run one of our old Silvermine favourites, Three Lookouts and a Peak, and celebrate the year's finale with a picnic brunch and a swim in the dam, weather permitting. (Third year lucky?)

Route

Starting at the car park nearest to the dam*, we'll head towards the fire lookout over Tokai, meander towards Blackburn lookout and complete the circular route via Noordhoek Peak to the Noordhoek lookout. There are options to include the Panorama path, the Crassula Path, divert to Elephant's Eye Cave and/or extend the distance with a jog down the River Walk. We'll organize group leaders and sweeps on the day. (Last year the lazibones in the fast group missed the Noordhoek Lookout. Make sure you tag it this year!)

Rendezvous and Start Time

The main gate - the one with the SANParks checkpoint - opens at 7am so please make your way to the car park at the dam* as quickly as possible.
We'll start running as soon as possible - latest 7:20am.
NB: There is no cellphone signal in Silvermine so if you are running late, there is no way to let us know. Don't be late!

Entry fee to Silvermine is still amazing value at R40 per adult - but NB:
CASH ONLYAlso remember to bring your ID book to prove you are a SA national.
Alternatively, buy a MyGreen card at the Tokai SANParks office this week (https://www.sanparks.org/parks/table-mountain/cards-permits/my-green-card), or carry your Wild card.

Terrain and Distance

Single track, jeep track, and a little bit of rock hopping. Depending on the group you join and the whim of the day, you'll run somewhere between 8 and 12km.

Groups

We will organise groups on the day. There will definitely be a "Lorraine's speed" group, hopefully a faster group and possibly a walking group. All to be confirmed on Friday.

Please bring:

A whistle, WATER, a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In  Case of Emergency) tag or card.

If you're staying for a Christmas picnic, please bring a cooler box with your favourite snacks and cool drinks. Invite your home family to join you and meet your trail family!

Unfortunately we do not welcome dogs on our runs.

See you there!

This week we have a later start as we head north to the Tygerberg Nature Reserve. Please note there is a R30 entrance fee.

Route details
The park is not big but there are good single tracks and a bit of elevation for us to zig and zag around with amazing panoramic views.
We will start with the Duiker loop and then join up with Tortoise up to the transmitter, along Watsonia and down right onto Grey Rhebok.  Following the border next is Honey Badger joining up with Ukhetshe we will follow the path back round until we get to the Golden Mole intersection where we'll go right and wiggle waggle with the lower mole back to the visitors center.

All in all, it will probably be around 12km and about 2 - 2.5 hours for the relaxed group as we stop to admire the view.

Walking group will be confirmed on Friday.

Subject: RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 4 November 2023: Grootkop via Kasteelspoort and tranquility Cracks

Hi Trailers

Next Saturday we go back on to table mountain via Kasteelspoort and run the twelve apostles' route to Grootkop for the gorgeous view (holding thumbs for better weather), exploring tranquility cracks on the way back before descending via Woody Ravine

Route

Option 1: We meet at the parking in Theresa Avenue and trudge up to the pipe track crossing it to scamper up Kasteelspoort. At the top we turn right and run along the twelve apostles' route till we get to Grootkop. After enjoying the view (weather dependent!), we return on the same path taking a quick detour to explore tranquility cracks before descending via Woody Ravine and making our way along the pipe track back to the cars.

Option 2: For those that don't enjoy climbing and descending, Gaeleen will be leading a route along the missing link starting further down Theresa Avenue. This has very little elevation and is more runnable.

Rendezvous and start time

For Grootkop route, meet at the entrance to the hiking trail on Theresa Avenue at 6h25 ready to start running at 6h30.

For the missing link, meet at the end of Theresa Avenue at 6h25 ready to start running at 6h30.

Terrain & Distance

Both routes are mainly single track with a bit of jeep track at the start for the Grootkop route.  Both routes are around 12km. The Grootkop route will take longer due to the climb.

What to bring

Water, appropriate clothes for windy, and/or wet weather, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • If you are not well, please stay at home
