Hi Trailers

Next Saturday we are going to explore Silvermine East starting from Kalk Bay going up via Trappieskop and Cave Peak

Route

We meet at the parking at Kalk Bay station and go up the stairs to Boyes Drive. We turn left on Boyes Drive and run to the Trappieskop trail. Just after the saddle at the top there is a single-track path to the right which takes us through to the Cave Peak trail. We turn left along here and go right up a small easy scrambly bit to get to the top. We turn left at the top. At the 3 way junction we turn left and run along Dead Man's path and then the jeep track through to the waterfall. We turn right along the fisherman's trail and run to a jeep track.

From the jeep track there are various options and distances:

  1. Turn right up the Crassula path to the Amphitheatre, through the amphitheatre and down Echo Valley to Weary Willy's and home – 11km
  2. Run along the jeep track for 0.6km and turn right up Speciosa Valley, past Kalk Bay Peak and down Spes Bona Valley to Weary Willy's and home – 13km
  3. Turn left on the single track to the jeep track leading to Junction Pool and follow the jeep track round and down to Weary Willy's and home – 15km

A shorter option is to skip Dead Man's path, run towards the amphitheatre and turn right down Echo Valley to Weary Willy's – 7km

Rendezvous and start time

The sun is getting up earlier! Park at Kalk Bay Station parking at 7am. Ready to start running at 7h15 am.

Terrain & Distance

The route is a combination of stairs, jeep track,  and single track.

There is a good choice of distances varying from 7km to 15km. To be decided at the junction of Dead Man's Path

What to bring

Water, appropriate clothes for cold, windy, or wet weather, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

To: Tmtrailers <tmtrailers@googlegroups.com>

Hi Trailers,

This week we return to Hout Bay for a mix of trail and road.

Route Overview

We'll warm up with a smooth road run to the start of the trail at East Fort. We'll start up the mountain on the trail at the Fort and continue up the jeep track until we reach the split to the higher contour path, where we may break into differing speed groups. We'll end up at Blackburn Ravine and follow the contour path towards Chapmans Peak.  At approximately 7km, the longer/faster group may extend the run up to the summit of Chapmans Peak. The relaxed group will head down to Chapmans Peak drive for the road-sprint back to our cars.

Terrain and Distance

A mix of jeep track, single track and tar.

+- 12 kms taking about 2h00 - 2h30mins (possibly longer if you take the Chapmans Peak extension)

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the parking area at the bottom of Chapman's Peak Drive, near the Life Saving club, at 07:25 ready to start at 07:30 (sunrise-ish).

Walking Group arranged via WhatApp group.

Let me know if you would like to be added to the TMT Walking Group WhatsApp group.

Please bring:

A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 12km can take longer than a road 12km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on our runs.

See you there!

See you in the morning

Gae

Saturday 12th August, Sandy Bay circuit, anti-clockwise direction

Rendezvous and Start Time

Meet at the brick-paved parking on Eustagia Way, opposite Brunia Way Hout Bay.  Ready to start running at 7h30.  Please come 10 mins earlier to sign the register and for a run briefing

Please be aware there is limited parking, so please try and share lifts with friends, or even park away from the area and walk to the start.  Please be considerate when parking your car.

Directions

Take the Hout Bay Main Road around the circle into Victoria Road, drive thro' the robots and take the second road to the left into Edgar Road and second road on the right. Into Eustegia Way. Parking area on the left opposite Brunia Way.

Route

We will run the route in an anti-clockwise direction.

The route starts with a short uphill on the brick paved road, then down to the beach and proceed onto Llandudno .  We then backtrack to Sandy Bay, enjoy the views and head southwards along the shoreline to OudeSchip Peninsula. You can spot the shipwreck Harvest Capella (1986).   It will not be low tide, but those that want to, may be able to get closer to the rusted shipwreck on the rocks. at the rocks at the end of LLandudno, and then again on the beach at Sandy Bay before heading onto the rocky shoreline.   Within your speed group, you will need to be sure that if you come to a turn, that the runner behind you has seen which way you go.  There will be plenty of opportunities for photographs so let's enjoy this as a social pack run.

Terrain and Distance

The terrain will include beach sand, jeep track (stony), single track, boulder-hopping and some steps to get the heart rate pumping.

RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 5th August 2023 - Up Oudekraal Ravine - Grootkop - Down Woody Ravine

Hi Trailers

Our run for tomorrow is ON.

It looks like a cloudy start "with brightening skies" and a NNW19/h wind.

As we say in Cape Town:  come prepared for anything 😊

There will be NO relaxed group starting from Theresa Avenue.  However, there is a relaxed group doing a different route in the Tokai area.  Please get in touch should we wish to know more.

Looking forward to seeing you at 7.20am.

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 5th August 2023 - Up Oudekraal Ravine - Grootkop - Down Woody Ravine

Hello Trailers

This week we go back up on to Table Mountain from the pipetrack side but we will start from Theresa Ave above Camps Bay.

Route:

We start at Theresa Ave (see below for directions) and climb up to meet the pipetrack.  From here we turn right and run along the pipetrack through Slanghole to the Oudekraal Ravine track. After a very steep climb up, we will head to Grootkop for some magnificent 360 degree views. There are various options down, but the suggested route is down Woody Ravine.

You can watch our route on the link below:

 https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2337183?units=km

Rendezvous:

We meet at Theresa Ave in Camps Bay at 7.20am for sign-in and run briefing.  We will start running at 7.30am.

Terrain and distance:

This is mostly single track with a bit a of jeep track at the start and end. Some steepish climbs (😊) and descents, but well worth the views. The distance is about 12km and there are ample routes for those who want extra distance, or for those who need to cut it short.

Directions:

Coming from town, pass the turnoff to the cable car and continue down towards Camps Bay, taking the 3rd road to the left (Fiskaal Road). Follow this road up the hill - keeping LEFT.  It becomes Francolin Ave and then Theresa Ave. Parking at the entrance is limited so park along the sea side of the road as far as possible taking care not to block any resident' s driveways or entrances. Please ensure that your car is facing the correct direction.

Weather:

At this stage, Saturday's weather looks very cool, with clear skies.  No rain forecast.  But this is Cape Town and many things can change between now and the end of the week!  Hopefully the skies remain clear for the Grootkop views.

Remember to bring:

Water, Whistle, Warm/windproof/rain top, ICE information and a snack.

This is a pack run so we are to look out for each other and ensure that the person behind knows we have turned.

We regroup frequently to ensure that everyone sticks together.

We will hopefully have three groups – fast, medium and a relaxed group.  This will be confirmed on Friday.

Unfortunately VOB do not allow dogs to accompany us on our runs.

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

For any queries, please whatsapp me.
