Fwd: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 25th January 2025 - Maiden’s Cove -Lions head circuit

Hi Everyone!

Wow, this week has been a roller coaster of weather!  YR weather app tells me it's going to be 20 degrees at 6am and 25 by 9am so we'll be thankful of the cold water in the pool after the run.

You may have seen some reports about muggings on the Sea Point side of Signal Hill recently. We will hopefully be up earlier than the muggers, but we'd like to ask everyone to stick together this week in this area.

If the faster group wants to extend the run, they can do so by climbing up a little of the Lion's neck and we could then all meet up at the beacon or the Kramat to run together through the hot spot. We won't be going to the Noon Day Gun on this run.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Hi Trailers,

In a variation on our usual Signal Hill/Lion's Head route we'll start and finish at the Maiden's Cove tidal pool this week so that we can reward ourselves with a refreshing dip to calm those hot, tired muscles after our run.

We meet at the car park at Maiden's Cove Tidal Pool/Braai Area, Clifton, and head up to Lion's Head and along to the end of Signal Hill through the Glen trail. The route will be about 12km with options to extend up the Lion's neck for those seeking more.

Here's my Strava link to the last time we ran this route:
https://strava.app.link/DgUw4MVdiQb

We'll start running at 6.30am, so please be ready and signed in by 6:25am.

Walking group – TBC on Friday.

Please bring: WATER, WATER AND MORE WATER, sunblock, weather appropriate clothing, a whistle, a space blanket and ICE (In Case of Emergency) tag or card.

Bring a cozzie and a towel for a swim afterwards

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on our runs.

All the usual t's and c's apply. See the blog for details: www.tablemountaintrailers.org.za

See you Saturday!

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 18 January 2025 Suikerbossie, Myburgh's Ravine up , Llandudno Ravine down

Hi Trailers

For the second official run of the year, we're visiting the Hout Bay side of the mountain. Starting at Suikerbossie, we run through to Myburgh's Ravine, wind our way up the ravine, run the undulating path through to Judas Peak and take Llandudno Ravine down.

For those that don't enjoy so much climbing and height, Lorraine will lead a shorter, flatter run through to Myburgh's waterfall and back

Route

From the parking we start up the path on the righthand side of Suikerbossie with the forest on our right. At the junction we turn right and have some flowing running through to Myburgh's Ravine. Once in the ravine we initially go up on the left and cross over to the right-hand side about halfway. There may be some early red disas at the crossover point. Once at the top we turn left with some more flowing single track to the Apostles path. Here we turn left. At the turnoff to Judas Peak, we may as well bag the peak and enjoy the views. Back down to the path and follow it down to Llandudno ravine. This is steep at times and has ropes and staples for assistance but is very doable.

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at the parking on the left-hand side of the Suikerbossie road before the entrance to Ruyterplaats estate. Be ready to run at 6h30

Terrain & Distance

Single track all the way

The route is around 10km (estimated) but has lots of ascent and descent so will take around 3 hours for the medium group

Lorraine's route will be around 8km

What to bring

Although we are on the shady side of the mountain, it may get hot at the top. Please come prepared as usual for all sorts of weather, plus a whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate gear, enough water and food.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

  • Please carry emergency contact numbers on your wrist/shoe
  • If you are not well, please stay at home

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS WE'RE BACK! SATURDAY 11TH JANUARY 2025 - LLANDUDNO - SANDY BAY - ROCKET ROAD

Hi Trailers

Tomorrow's run is ON

There is no official walking group

For those wanting extra distance and a big climb, there is the option to do the Suther Peak out and back section (about 6.8 km. 650 m elevation)  This can be decided at the start

Please remember to share lifts

See you in the morning.

Gae Tompkins

0835569679

Rendezvous and Start Time

Meet at the brick-paved parking on Eustagia Way, opposite Brunia Way, Hout Bay.

Be ready to start running at 6h30.

Please arrive 10 mins earlier to sign the register and for a run briefing.

Please be aware there is limited parking, so please try and share lifts with friends, or even park away from the area and walk to the start.  Please be considerate when parking your car.

Directions

Take the Hout Bay Main Road around the circle into Victoria Road, drive thro' the robots and take the second road to the left into Edgar Road and second road on the right. Into Eustegia Way. Parking area on the left opposite Brunia Way.

Route

The route starts with a short uphill on the brick paved road, then down to the beach and proceed onto Llandudno.  We then backtrack to Sandy Bay, enjoy the views and head southwards along the shoreline to OudeSchip Peninsula. You can spot the shipwreck Harvest Capella (1986).  This will then be followed by a steep climb on gabion steps to Rocket (Mitchells) Road.  Once on the gravel road, we run until we take the left fork at the stone cairn and head back towards our cars.

Sandy Bay has been a criminal hot spot, so for safety reasons we are going to run this as a pack run.  We will run in different speed groups, but we will all regroup at the rocks at the end of Llandudno, and then again on the beach at Sandy Bay before heading onto the rocky shoreline.  Within your speed group, you will need to be sure that if you come to a turn, that the runner behind you has seen which way you go.  There will be plenty of opportunities for photographs so let's enjoy this as a social pack run.

Terrain and Distance

The terrain will include beach sand, jeep track (stony), single track, boulder-hopping and some steps to get the heart rate pumping.

Distance in the region of 11,5  km, with an estimated time of 2,5 hours, plus more to enjoy the view

What to bring  – water, whistle, warm/waterproof top, sun block, camera, money for the car guard.  Make sure you have your emergency contact details on you.
