Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2024 Muizenberg Striped Horse to Silvermine Peaks

Hi Trailers

Next weekend the mountain will be crawling with UTCT runners on all sides, so I've tried to find a spot where we won't be in the way but might catch a glimpse as they fly past.

We will park at the Striped Horse in York Road Muizenberg, go up the stairs to Pecks Valley and explore Silvermine from there. As we're close to the beach, we can swim and enjoy coffee after the run

Route

From the Striped Horse parking, we go up Camp Road and climb the stairs to Boyes Drive and go through the Hole in the Wall. After going up Peck's Valley, we turn right at the junction to go up to Muizenberg Peak and enjoy the view. We turn left at the Peak and descend down to the jeep track. After running along the fence of the installation we turn right up the single track to go up Higher Steenberg Peak and descend to meet the jeep track near Entrance Gate 2. We turn left and jog along the jeep track crossing above the waterfall and turn left up the Fisherman's Path. At the jeep track we turn left and do some more jeep track jogging to the jeep track junction where we carry on straight on the single track that goes down Mimetes Valley. We go down towards Baley's Kloof but take the left turn that will bring us back to the start of Peck's Valley and trot home.

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at the Striped Horse parking at 6h20 ready to start at 6h30

Terrain & Distance

Single track and jeep track with a bit of road at the start/finish

The route is around 13km (estimated)

There are many shortcuts but need a group of more than 2 for safety

What to bring

Appropriate clothes for possible cool, overcast weather, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate gear, water and food.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

  • Please carry emergency contact numbers on your wrist/shoe
  • If you are not well, please stay at home

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 02 November 2024: Green Point lighthouse Lions Head Signal Hill circuit

Happy Monday Trailers

Sticking to the Atlantic side, we're starting at the Green Point Light house.

Route details
From Green Point (Green Point) lighthouse, we warm up along beach road/ prom and head up Glengariff Road (please be mindful of traffic).  At the top of Glengariff we hit the trail, let our lungs catch-up, and turn right to run above Sea Point.

We follow the Lions Head Path all the way around the bottom of Lions Head.  The 3 Peaks Challenge is on and we should be early enough to miss the runners, but please keep an ear out. We pass the start of the Lions Head hiking trail to head back along the rump of the Lion, at the Kramat we continue to the next parking area.

Here there is an "out and back" option to Signal Hill lookout before turning down towards Bo-Kaap. On our way down we take the first left and then right to the Lion Battery (through the gap in the fence) we find our way to the Noon Gun.  Pause to take some pics with the "big guns" and of the view before continuing our way down the side of signal hill.

We make our way back to the lighthouse via the side streets, passed the stadium and through Green Point park (again please be mindful of traffic).

Rendezvous and Start Time:

RV at  the Green Point Lighthouse at 6:20am ready to start running at 6:30am

Terrain and Distance:

Mostly single track with plenty of "up" to start and undulating running.

Distance: approx 12-13kms taking about 2h30 mins for the Medium Group

Faster Group will follow a similar route with a possible extension decided on the day.

Walking Group will be confirmed on Friday.

Please Bring:
whistle, water, a warm /waterproof/windproof top dependent on weather, space blanket and ICE (In Case of Emergency) tag or card
