TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 5 October 2019 - Woody Ravine (Theresa Ave start)

Hi all Trailers!

This week we go back up on to Table Mountain from the pipetrack side but start from Theresa Ave in Camps Bay at 6.30 am.

It is October and the sun is up earlier!

Route:

We start at Theresa Ave and climb up to meet the pipetrack.  From here we turn right and run along the pipetrack to Woody Ravine. After a steep climb up Woody, there are many options depending on time constraints.  A longer distance option will be to come down Diagonal but for those wanting to keep it shorter can come back down Kasteelspoort and back down to the cars.

Rendezvous:

We meet at Theresa Ave in Camps Bay (see attachment for directions) at 6.25am ready to run at 6.30am.

Terrain and distance:

This is mostly single track with a bit a of jeep track at the start and end. Some steep climbs and descents but the views are worth it. The distance is around 10km and there are ample routes for those who want a bit of extra distance.

Directions:

Coming from town, pass the turnoff to the cable car at the Kloof Nek circle and continue down towards Camps Bay, taking the 3rd road to the left (Fiskaal Road). Follow this road up the hill - it winds up and around and becomes Francolin Ave and then Theresa Ave. Parking at the entrance is limited so park along the sea side of the road as far as possible taking care not to block any resident' s driveways or entrances. Please ensure that your car is facing the correct direction.

Remember:

Water, Whistle, Warm/windproof/rain top, ICE information and a snack.

Groups

This is a pack run with regular regroups, and we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday.

Dogs

Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday !

Fwd: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 28th September - Simonstown to Smitswinkel (point to point)

Hi Trailers,

Our run tomorrow is ON
The weather is forecast to be partly cloudy, not too hot, with the wind picking up.

There should be two vehicles at the end (one for the medium group, one for relaxed) Anyone else planning to park a vehicle at the end should be there by latest 06h40 so that there is enough time to get back to the start before the briefing.

There has been a request for a lift from Observatory on the WhatsApp group if anyone can assist?

See you at 06h55 at the start

Hi Trailers,

Next Saturday we will be venturing along a new route (for TMT) starting from Simonstown. This is a point to point route, so there will be some car admin involved. The trail requires a permit from SanParks and permission from the landowner of the private reserve that the path crosses. This has been organised, and each group will need to carry a copy which I will supply at the start,  just in case there are rangers on the mountain :-)

SanParks would like us to report any sightings of klipspringers, ideally with photographs.

Route
We start from Jan Smuts drive in Simonstown and climb up the jeep track which turns into a single track towards the Quarries. Just before the Quarries we take the path that turns to the left, and climb up towards Blockhouse Gap, passing ruins of a Blockhouse. At Blockhouse Gap we take the path to the left to climb to the top of Swart Kop. The path continues south towards Smitswinkel, along the top of the Swartkop mountains, and then descends towards the Smitswinkel tented camp and the road to Cape Point, near where the cars are parked at the end. For extra distance, there is the option to cross the main road and continue down to Smitswinkel Bay, with a climb back up to the car park. If the fast group needs a lot more distance, there is the option to run back to the start, either on the trail or on the t*r along the coast (approximately 19km if completing the full loop...). There will be around 739m ascent in total on the basic route.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:55am at Jan Smuts Drive, Simonstown (near number 30) ready to start at 7.00am.

How to get there

Drive through the centre of Simonstown towards Cape Point. Just after Simons Town School on the right, and a convenience store on the left, turn right up Harrington Road. Continue to the T junction at the top, and turn left into Jan Smuts drive. Continue along Jan Smuts and the start will be just after number 30 on the right. There should be parking along Jan Smuts, please be considerate when parking and do not block any residents access. Map of the start attached.

The car park at the end of the trail is at Smitswinkel Bay Corner (permit indicates max of 4 vehicles) This is approximately 12 minutes drive (9.3km) from the start. Parking is not permitted at Smits Forestry station or Smits Camp, including driveways.

Terrain and distance
Starting on jeep track, then single track. Uphill start and then undulating with a steepish descent near the end. Around 9,5 - 11km depending on the route chosen. Not sure how long it will take ... Hikers indicate approximately 5 hours :-)

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

There will be a relaxed group which will be hiking the route.

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs. The permit also indicates that dogs are not allowed on this trail.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

See you there!

Hi Trailers,

Next Saturday is promising to be overcast and cool with some rain forecast  for the Peace Trail runners on Sunday. Great running weather! We'll park at Kalk Bay station and wind our way up to Silvermine taking in some peaks at the same time. Lots of options for those who want shorter, flatter, hillier, longer routes

Route
We start from Kalk Bay station and go up the steps to Boyes Drive. Instead of taking Weary Willie's, we turn left along the road until the Trappieskop route. Just after the saddle we take a right on to the single track that takes us to Cave Peak. After some easy scrambling up we run through to the amphitheatre. From there we take the Crassula path and head along single and jeep tracks towards Muizenberg Peak. Those wanting to bag another of the 13 Peaks can trot up to the top. After the descent, there are many paths (jeep track and single track)  to get back to Weary Willie's and back down to Kalk Bay.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:55am at Kalk Bay station (next to Cape to Cairo) ready to run at 7.00am.

Terrain and distance
Single track and jeep tracks. Uphill start and then undulating in Silvermine. Around 12 – 14km depending on the route chosen

Good Morning Trailers

This Saturday we head to the Republic of Hout Bay for a mix of trail and road.

Route details

Meet at the parking by Vida e Caffe at the bottom of Chappies.

Inline image

We warm up with a trot up the road to the start of the trail at East Fort. From the shortcut trail we join the jeep track until we get the split to the higher contour path where we may split into groups, those who don't like heights or don't want the steeper climb can continue along the jeep track.  We all end up at Blackburn Ravine and follow the contour path towards Chapmans Peak.  Along the single track we are treated to magnificent views (weather permitting) across the bay.
At approximately 7km we can decide whether to summit Chapmans Peak or head down to Chapmans Peak drive, popping out by the "ticket checker".  From here we have a leg stretch on the tar(approx 4km) back to our cars.

Please remember this a pack run led by committee, and its important that we look out for each other.

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the parking area 06:55 ready to start at 07:00.

Terrain and Distance

A mix of jeep track, single track and tar.

Distance: +- 12 kms taking about 2h00 - 2h30mins for Medium Group (longer if we go up Chapmans Peak)

Fast Group
Will follow a similar route with a possible extension to be decided on the day.

Relaxed Group to be confirmed.

*Please note adjustments to the route may be made whilst running depending on the group and weather conditions.

Please bring:

A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 12km can take longer than a road 12km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on our runs.

Have a great week!
