TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS TMT 24 April 2021 Saturday: Mouille Point lighthouse - Lions Head/Signal Hill Loop

Hi Trailers

We start at another light house for our next route.

Route details
From Mouille Point (Green Point) lighthouse, we warm up along beach road and head up Glengariff Road (please be mindful of traffic).  At the top of Glengariff, we catch our breath, then hit the trail turning right to run above Sea Point below the rump of the lion.

Following the Lions Head Path, at the intersection below the Kramat we keep low and continue around the base of Lions Head returning to the Kramat.

From the Kramat it's a nice flowing run along Signal Hill ridge to the next parking area where we turn right to head down towards the noon day gun above the City side.  We pause here to take some great pics with the cannons and of the view before our slalom down the side of the mountain to Green Point.

Continuing our decent we make our way through the houses down to Green Point park and return to the lighthouse (again please be mindful of traffic).

Rendezvous and Start Time:

RV at  the Moullie Point (Green Point) Lighthouse at 6:55am ready to start running at 7:00am

Terrain and Distance:

Mostly single track with some solid climbing and flowing running.

Distance: approx 12-13kms taking about 2h30 mins for the Medium Group

Faster group will be determined on the morning.

Please Bring:
whistle, water, a warm /waterproof/windproof top dependent on weather, space blanket and ICE (In Case of Emergency) tag or card

This is a pack run and for safety, please check behind you to ensure that the person behind is still there and that they see where you turn off.  Routes are subject to deviation on the day.

Unfortunately no dogs allowed on our runs.

Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.

Hi Trailers,

Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.

  • No gathering in a big group at start or end of the run

This week we will be starting from the Kloof Nek Parking -on the left just after the turn off to the cable car. Try and get there early in case it gets full. We will start running at 6h45am

Route

From the car park, we run along the pipe track to Woody Ravine, up Woody and turn right to get to Tranquility cracks. After exploring these, we turn back along the apostles path and run to Diagonal Ravine for the descent. We may detour to explore the Valken Labyrinth at the top of Diagonal just for fun. At the bottom of Diagonal we turn right and return to the cars along the pipe track

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Kloof Nek car park ready to start running at 6h45am. Please arrive early for check-in and safety briefing.

Terrain & Distance

The route starts and ends with flowing running along the pipe track and after that it is mostly single track with a climb up Woody and down Diagonal.  It is around 12km.

An alternative descent is Kasteelspoort which is not necessarily shorter but it is easier.

A shorter alternative is to skip Tranquility Cracks and just do a round loop up Woody and down Kasteelspoort – around 10km

What to bring

Water (essential), whistlea space blanket and your ICE information.

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear. The top of the mountain can be a whole different weather pattern!

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.
