TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 27 May 2023

Good Morning Trailers!

This week  Saturday 27th May will be returning to Silvermine (Gate 1) – the dam side, with a later start.

Our route:  Steenberg ridge,  Crassula path, River walk

Rendezvous and start time

First entrance to Silvermine on the right coming from Tokai. Gates to the reserve open at 7.45 - 8:00am but the queues can be long so get there early and parking is limited, so please consider sharing lifts.  We'll meet at 8:15am at the 'cyclist' parking, which is up the road and to the right after the gate, so NOT the parking at the gate.  We will start running as soon as possible thereafter.

Please note there is an entrance fee of R38 for SA Citizens (think it's cash only and remember to bring your ID), unless you have Wild Card or Green Card

Route
See attached photo – I have mapped out the potential route, but there may be changes on the day.

We start off with some gravel and single tracks taking us onto Steenberg ridge.  Thereafter we make our way to the fire lookout, and potentially an out and back to Elephant's eye cave..  We then make our way to the gravel road and then onto the Crassula path – there is an option to first do Blackburn ravine lookout and back if more distance is required.   Once we reach the gravel road after the Crassula path,  we take a nice single track back down to the Old Wagon Road.  We then run up the road until we find the start of the River trail.  We take this route until we intersect a gravel road, where we turn right at head back to our cars

Terrain and Distance.   Some undulating bush trails and gravel tracks, as well as some nice single tracks.

Distance will be approx. 12 km for the planned route, plus extra if required.    I am guessing in the region of 2hrs 30 mins

Our runs are pack runs and will may split into 2 or 3 pace groups on the day.  Weather permitting, there will be a walking group.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.  Please keep together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

PS  Sorry no dogs allowed on VOB runs

Have a great week

Happy Monday Trailers

We're City and Sea side this Saturday (thanks Grant for the suggestion)

Here we can choose to "out and back" to Signal Hill lookout before turning down towards Bo-Kaap. Taking the first left and then right we find our way to the noon day gun, where we pause to take some pics with the "big guns" and of the view before continuing our way down the side of signal hill.

We make our way back to the cars down side streets to run through Green Point park and return to the lighthouse (again please be mindful of traffic).

Hi All,

No changes to the plans for tomorrow. We'll meet and sign in at Constantia Nek at 6:55am. If you need to make a plan to get a lift up from the Hout Bay parking lot, please be there by 6:40am. If you haven't already made a plan with running buddies, please let me know.

BRING a HEADLIGHT. It'll be dark for the first half hour.
The weather seems to be drying up but bring warm clothes and a few bucks for the parking guards!

See you there.

Hi trailers!

This week's run will see us back in the Hout Bay area, but we'll be running point to point from Constantia Nek via Vlakkenberg peak, past Picnic Rock and down the single track past the manganese mines to finish at the parking area on Hout Bay beach.

Route and Terrain:

We'll huff and puff up the Vlakkenberg steps behind Silvermist and follow the Hoerikwaggo Hiking Trail until we see the path leading off to the left towards Vlakkenberg Peak. Here, we'll run a short out and back to tag the peak and take in the proteas. Returning to the main trail, we'll run the undulating rocky path until we meet the tar road, run along it for a few metres and then take a right turn back on to the single track to stop at Picnic Rock for a photo shoot. Then we continue on the flowing HHT (I think it's called Alfie's Path) all the way to the Manganese Mines and onto Chappies. It's all single track except for the last km which is on Chapman's Peak Drive.

Rendezvous and Start Time:

We'll need to do some car admin this week so the options are to meet at Hout Bay beach parking to catch a ride up to the Nek or to park at the Nek and organise a ride back to your car from the beach after the run. We can use the WhatsApp group to organise this during the week. Either way, you need to be at the Nek by 6:55 to start running at 7am.

Distance; 10-11 km, taking us approximately 2 hours.

Relaxed Group: To be confirmed on Friday.

The small print:

All the usual rules apply with regard to water, warm tops and whistles, as well as space blankets and ICE information

This is a pack run -  not a race - please stay with your group! Please also remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going. Front Runners, wait for the back of your pack to catch their breath before moving on.

Please note no dogs are allowed on our runs.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Regards

Lorraine
