TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 1 June 2024: Lions Head Signal Hill circuit from Mouille Point (Green Point) lighthouse

Morning Trailers

This week I have chosen to do the Green Point/Signal hill run in memory of Dave Bywater, who has sadly passed away.  This was a route introduced to Trailers by Dave many years ago and has become a regular and favourite route.

Route details
We will run the route in an anti-clockwise direction.

From Mouille Point (Green Point) lighthouse, we warm up along beach road and head up Glengariff Road (please be mindful of traffic).  At the top of Glengariff we reach the trail, give our lungs time to catch up, and turn right to run above Sea Point.

We follow the Lions Head Path all the way around the bottom of Lions Head, dodging the tourists as we pass the start of the Lions Head hiking trail to head back along the rump of the Lion, passed the Kramat to the 2nd parking area .

Here we can choose to "out and back" to Signal Hill lookout before turning down towards Bo-Kaap. Taking the first left and then right we find our way to the noon day gun, where we pause to take some pics with the "big guns" and of the view before continuing our way down the side of signal hill.

We make our way back to the cars down side streets to run through Green Point park and return to the lighthouse (again please be mindful of traffic).

Rendezvous and Start Time:

RV at  the Moullie Point (Green Point) Lighthouse at  7.15 a.m. ready to start running at 7.30 a.m.

Terrain and Distance:

Mostly single track with some solid climbing and flowing running.

Distance: approx 12-13kms taking about 2h30 mins Walking Group will be confirmed on Friday.

What to bring
Water, appropriate clothes for cold, windy, or wet weather, a whistle, a space blanket, and your ICE information
Please check the weather before leaving home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Important:
This is a pack run with regular regroups. We usually split into two or three pace groups. Group leaders will be indicated on the day. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no one is left alone. Remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to ensure the people behind you see which way you are going.

Have a great week.

Happy Monday Trailers

This Saturday we're in the Republic of Hout Bay.

Route details
Starting from the parking by Velocity Gym, we warm up with a trot up the road to the start of the trail at East Fort. From the shortcut trail we join the jeep track until we get the split to the higher contour path where we may split into groups, those who don't like heights or don't want the steeper climb can continue along the jeep track.  We all end up at Blackburn Ravine and follow the contour path towards Chapmans Peak.  Along the single track we are treated to magnificent views (weather permitting) across the bay, note there is some mild exposure in sections adding to the adventure.
At approximately 7km groups can decide whether to summit Chapmans Peak or head down to Chapmans Peak drive, popping out by the "ticket checker".  From here we have a leg stretch on the tar (approx 4km) back to our cars.

Please remember this a social pack run led by committee with plenty of opportunities for photographs, and its important that we look out for each other.

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the Velocity Gym parking area at the bottom of Chappies, please come 5 mins earlier to sign the register and for a run briefing, ready to start at 07:30 (sunrise-ish).

Inline image

Terrain and Distance

A mix of jeep track, single track and tar.

Distance: +- 12 kms taking about 2h00 - 2h30mins for Main & Relaxed Group, longer if doing Chapmans Peak summit.

Walking group will be confirmed in Fridays mail.

*Please note adjustments to the route may be made whilst running depending on the group and weather conditions. Remember to check Friday's email just in case there are changes.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.

FW: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - circular route around that big rock called Devil's Peak

Hi all, tomorrow is ON

No wind, what there is should be East-ish, lots of mid-height cloud, hopefully it does not obscure the magnificent views from the upper contour, temperature just perfect for a mountain outing.

See you there, start 7:30…

No news about walkers, perhaps just arrive and see who is keen to walk?

Hi Trailers

This coming Saturday we will circle the big rock called Devil's Peak.

Rendezvous and start time

We meet for our briefing and sign the register ready to start running at 07:30

RV at Newlands Forest car park near the helicopters

 Route

https://www.plotaroute.com/route/944869?units=km

This plot-a-route is 'kind of' what we are doing, there are many variations.

We will go from Newlands, lots of up to the right, take the single track left up to the turnstile, Blockhouse, Mowbray (or… here is the first option to go around to Oppels and over the saddle)

After Mowbray, go up one more level to the Knife Edge T junction, turn right and do the upper contour to the mini saddle and perhaps meet the lower contour people.

Then an option is to summit The Devil, then down Newlands Ravine to the cars.

Expect about 10 tough km's and probably 3 hours.

Terrain and Distance

All sorts, minor exposure on Mowbray, could describe it as completely do-able and fantastic.

Walking Group to be confirmed on Friday.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.
