Hi Trailers

Run is ON

The weather for Saturday looks good. However please ensure you have the appropriate gear on hand.

There will be no Walking Group.

Hi Trailers

Please note the change of route due to the Two Oceans trail run taking place in Newlands Forest, apologies for this.

Rendezvous and Start Time

Cecilia forest car park at the top of Hohenort Ave just off Rhodes Drive, at 7:20 am ready to start running around 7:30 am.

Route

A very runnable route with a surprising amount of elevation.

Starting with a gentle climb up the jeep track to Cecilia Stream, we turn left at the stream to get onto the contour path, from here we run along the contour path past Skeleton Gorge taking the split to the right that leads down to the jeep track, heading towards Newlands and looping back on the lower jeep track into Kirstenbosch, past the Kirstenbosch dam and back to the car park. A longer group will do another loop towards Constansia Nek.

Terrain and Distance

The longer route is +/-12.5km and the shorter route +/-9.5Km with many variations to choose from. Elevation +/- 570

The terrain is a mixture of a single rocky track and a flowing Jeep track.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm, wind, or waterproof top depending on weather plus your space blanket and ICE information.

Important:

This is a pack run with regular regroups. We usually split into two or three pace groups. Group leaders will be indicated on the day. Leaders of each group will ensure that no one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no one is left on their own. Remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to ensure the people behind you see which way you are going.

Dogs

Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we return to Cape Point to explore along Atlantic Coast in a less visited section of the park.

Route

Platboom - Gifkommetjie - Hoek van Bobbejaan

Starting from Platboom Parking area cross the Dune field then follow the coast line north west.

Once you have left the Dune field behind, pass a grassy area and look north out over a small rocky bay.

Towering above at a full 112m is the Groot-Blaauwberg. This is your target.

Follow the coastline around the bay. Once close to the hill look for a clear path to your right. (There is a large pole planted at the turn off but sadly no signage)

Follow the steps up to the top of the hill (Gifkommetjie parking area) for some beautiful views.

From The Gifkommetjie Parking area follow the Hoek van Bobbejaan trail.  Opposite one of the viewing decks the path passes through some rocks.

Follow along the ridge line path to Hoek van Bobbejaan.

At this point we may visit some shipwrecks (amongst others the Phyllisia). Additional distance may be added by heading towards Sirkelsvlei

From the point where the ridge line path meets the Cape Point Hiking trail, head back following the shoreline towards Platboom.

Highlights on the way back include some milkwood tunnels and the Gifkommetjie bay.

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Platboom Parking area  at 7h20am - ready to run at 7h30am. (Park Gate opens at 7 am, please allow sufficient time to reach the Platboom Parking)

Directions

From the Cape Point entry gate follow the road down toward the point. After passing the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre look for the first road to your right. (approx. 1km from the Visitor Centre)

Signage should indicate Platboom. Follow along till you reach the parking area.

Terrain & Distance

The route is mostly single track with limited elevation gain, rocky and sandy with lots of smooth runnable sections.

The planned route is around 12km, additional distance may be added depending on the pace group leader

What to bring

Wildcard, My Green Card or park entry fee.

Water, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be variable down at the point. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we will circumnavigate that big rock to the left of Table Mountain

Route

We park at Newlands parking area (near the helicopters).  We go up behind the helicopters and go up…  To the turnstile, past the King's blockhouse, up Mowbray ridge to the top contour.  There are some options from the blockhouse…  Instead of going up Mowbray, you can turn right and do the lower contour, or go up Mowbray and do the middle contour, or come with us and do the top contour.  We then go around the front of Devil's peak – high up with lovely views, and end up at that little saddle where we go up to the top of the Devil.  Then down to the top of Newlands Ravine and back to the cars.

There will be a relaxed group doing a less demanding Newlands meander

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Newland parking area to be ready to run at 7h30am.

Terrain & Distance

There will be some jeep track to start, then lots of single track and climbs and descents.  About 10km, but do not be fooled, it is a tough 10km and is not quick.

What to bring

Water, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be different up on the mountain. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Please be aware that our runs operate under the modified COVID protocols

  • All runners to carry a mask or buff
  • Practice social distancing
  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home
