TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS TMT 02 October 2021 Saturday: Mouille Point lighthouse - Lions Head/Signal Hill Loop

Good Morning Trailers

Hope you enjoyed the Heritage Day weekend!

We are almost in October (eek!) and with the September #Gone2Gone challenge wrapping up, we thought we'd do our own lite version of the first section.

Route details
From Mouille Point (Green Point) lighthouse, we warm up along beach road and head up Glengariff Road (please be mindful of traffic).  At the top of Glengariff, we catch our breath, then hit the trail turning right to run above Sea Point below the rump of the lion.

Following the Lions Head Path, at the intersection below the Kramat we keep low and continue looping around the base of Lions Head returning via the start of the Lions Head hiking trail to the Kramat.

From the Kramat it's a nice flowing run along Signal Hill ridge to the next parking area where we turn right to head down towards the noon day gun above the City side (remember it's the first left as we head down the hill, unless you want to extend the distance and added vert).  We pause here to take some pics with the cannons and of the view before our slalom down the side of the mountain to Green Point.

Continuing our decent down the stairs between the houses to and through Green Point park, we return to the lighthouse (again please be mindful of traffic).

Rendezvous and Start Time:

RV at the Moullie Point (Green Point) Lighthouse at 6:55am ready to start running at 7:00am

Terrain and Distance:

Mostly single track with some solid climbing and flowing running.

Distance: approx 12-13kms taking about 2h30 mins for the Main Group

Faster group will be determined on the morning.

Relaxed & Walking Group to be confirmed Friday.

Please Bring:
whistle, water, a warm /waterproof/windproof top dependent on weather, space blanket and ICE (In Case of Emergency) tag or card

This is a pack run and for safety, please check behind you to ensure that the person behind is still there and that they see where you turn off.  Routes are subject to deviation on the day.

Unfortunately no dogs allowed on our runs.

Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.

  • No gathering in a big group at start or end of the run
  • All runners to carry a mask or buff
  • Practice social distancing
  • We will break into small groups as per regulations while we run
  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • We will monitor the groups on a weekly basis for size
  • VOB reserves the right to stop TMT if the COVID infections increase again in the Western Cape
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home

Have a great week!

FW: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 25th Septebmer

Morning Trailers

Tomorrow's run is ON – we will probably have 3 groups

See attached proposed route.  Not sure how many will be joining tomorrow, so maybe try and familiarise yourself with the route.

We will do it in a clockwise direction - starting with the Alphen greenbelt and then the Diep River Greenbelt, which will take us onto Southern Cross Drive (about 5 km).

From here we will run up into Cecelia forest to the waterfall, take the left fork and make our way to Rycroft gate (Top Tap) in Kirstenbosch.

We will then make our way down to Spillhause Avenue, and drop down into the Secret forest and Klaasenbosch Greenbelt, crossing over Hohenort Avenue and joining the Alphen trail again and back to the cars.

There will be a few sections of tar road between greenbelts, and generally not much technical stuff.

Distance:  Approx 12 km for main group, approx. 2 – 2,5 hours

Remember:  Wait at any intersections and check the runner behind you has seen the way you are going – it is a group/pack run

Relaxed group – Will do the same route with an optional shortcut at the 5 km point, and run the cycle track parallel to Rhodes Drive before popping out at the Cecelia forest parking, and then the secret forest and back to the cars

Walking group – The walkers will do a shorter version

What to bring:  Water, Whistle, warm/waterproof top, ICE details

 Rendezvous and Start Time

RV at 06h50, ready to start at 07h00   in the Constantia Sports complex parking area.  Enter the sports complex (at the Brommersvlei/Constantia Rd intersection), and park on the left hand side as you enter. The parking area, as well as our route will be familiar with all K-way VOB members.

Please remember to adhere to the COVID rules below:

  • No gathering in a big group at the start or end of the run.
  • All runners to carry a mask or buff.
  • Practice social/physical distancing.
  • We will break into small groups as per regulations while we run.
  • No personal sign in – ensure the leader ticks you in/out. Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe.
  • We will monitor the groups on a weekly basis for size.
  • VOB reserves the right to stop TMT if the COVID infections increase again in the Western Cape.
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home.

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we visit the Buffels Bay side of Cape Point, which was the start of our last organised run before lockdown hit us.

Route

We park at the lower parking and run along the parking road south along the coast until it becomes a path. We follow this path heading south along the coast until it meets up with the Hoerikwaggo trail.  We then turn along the Hoerikwaggo trail and run north back towards Buffels Bay, cross the tar road and head to the Buffelsfontein visitors centre and on towards Canonkop. Once we have reached the canon, we turn down and head to the old Lime kiln and back along the coast to Buffels Bay. This will give us a good 12 – 13km

For those that want a shorter run, they can skip the first bit and head straight to Bufflesfontein and Canonkop. This is about 8km

Rendezvous and start time

The park opens at 7am. The queues can be long so please arrive early. It is about an 8km drive from the gate to Buffels Bay  so we will start running at 7h30 am. Park at Buffels Bay lower parking – NOT Buffelsfontein info centre

Please remember your entrance fee:

  • R85 with SA ID
  • MyGreenCard - recommended
  • WildCard with letter

Terrain & Distance

The route is a mainly single track with a bit of tar at the start of both runs

What to bring

Water, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information. It is nice to swim in the pool at Buffels Bay after the run so come prepared.

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear. Cape Point can be much windier and colder than the rest of Cape Town

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.
