Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 20 July 2024 Silvermine West (Gate 1)

Hi Trailers

As there has been so much damage and many areas of the mountain and cape point are closed, we will play it safe on Saturday and explore Silvermine West.

There is an entrance fee of R40 so remember your wildcard, green card or cash plus ID

Route

We will park at the first car park just left of the entrance gate. From there we will run up the River Walk and take the track that leads to the Bike car park. We run through the car park and go up Steenberg Ridge following it to the track down to Elephants eye lookout. Once at the lookout, we can decide to go to the cave as a detour or turn left along the jeep track to get back to the main track. We go up toward Hout Bay lookout but take the left turn to run the amphitheatre path. We follow this flowing track to the jeep track, turn left and run down to the first right turn and take the single track down towards Ou Kaapse Weg. When we reach the jeep track, we turn left to get back to the car park.

Rendezvous and start time

The Gate opens at 8am. Please try and arrive early as there will be a queue. We will plan to start running at 8h15am. There is no reception so we won't know if you're running late

Terrain & Distance

A mixture of degraded jeep and single track. Distance estimated at around 12km with shorter and longer options available.

What to bring

Appropriate clothes for possible rain, misty, windy weather, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate gear, water and food.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • If you are not well, please stay at home

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 13 July 2024: Cecilia Forest - Cecilia Ridge loop

Happy Monday Trailers

This Saturday we're exploring from Cecilia Forest.

Route details
Starting from the Cecilia Forest parking we'll warm up through the cork forest parallel to the road until just above Southern Cross drive.  We won't go as far as the Contstantia Neck jeep track boom but rather stay on the track as it loops back through the forest. Keeping left we'll stick to the jeep track running above the SANParks compound until the "big tree" intersection where we can decide whether to go up via Cecilia Waterfall or continue on the contour path towards Kirstenbosch until we see the Cecilia Ravine sign where we turn left up a steep set of steps.
The Cecilia Ridge path starts near the highest point on the path and after some fun easy scrambling and pauses to admire the spectacular view (weather permitting) we'll pop out near the Overseers Cottage.  From here we head back down on the Constantia Neck Jeep Track (the long group can opt for an extension to the dams).
At the first look-out point we'll leave the jeep track and follow the single track down through the trees across the trail path (don't turn left back to Cecilia waterfall) but continue on the single track through the trees until we join back up on the jeep track that will take us down to our cars.
Please bring your sense of adventure as the route may change depending on damage caused by the weather this week as well as weather conditions on the day.
This is a social pack run led by committee with plenty of opportunities for photographs, and its important that we look out for each other!

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Sat 29 June: Front Face

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we return to Table Mountain Front Face before the route is shut down from 15 July to 1 Sep due to cable car maintenance.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at 7:20 am
at Kloof Nek top parking above MyCiti parking. We start running at 7:30 am.

PS there is now a Coffee Box in the parking lot.

How to get there?

Drive up Kloof Nek Rd to the top and follow the signs to the Cable Station. After turning left onto Tafelberg Rd you will see a parking area on your left, it has two levels, turn left into the upper level.

Terrain and distance

Singletrack, technical, 'undulating'. 10-14 km's depending on whether you turn around at Platties (7km return) or go to Oppelskop and return. 2h30ish. Not for those afraid of heights.

NB: Also important to note is that we cannot take the short cut up steps and through the pine forest due to roadworks, so we will go carefully up the road to the Kloof corner steps.

Route

A straightforward out and back run along the scenic trail across the North Face of Table Mountain to Oppelskop and return.

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

Dogs

Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

At this time of year, the weather can change fast. Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.

Relaxed group: Route to be decided on the day.

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no one is left on their own.

See you there!
