TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 4th December

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we retrace the steps of the UTCT champions in the lovely surroundings of the Alphen Greenbelts, Klaasenbosch, Cecilia forest etc.  Please note we won't attempt matching the pace of those UTCT competitors.  It will be a lovely steady pace with time to take in what nature has to offer.

Saturday 4th December   -  UTCT section with Constantia Greenbelts

Brief Description of Route

We will run the greenbelts, including the Alphen trail, Klaasenbosch and Diep River Trail.  We will run the route in an anti-clockwise direction – Constantia sports complex, Alphen greenbelt, Klaasenbosch, sections of Cecilia, Kirstenbosch, Constantia Neck and Diep River trail back into the Alphen greenbelt.

 Rendezvous and Start Time

RV at 06h20, ready to start at 06h30   in the Constantia Sports complex parking area.  Enter the sports complex (at the Brommersvlei/Constantia Rd intersection), and park on the left hand side as you enter. The parking area, as well as our route will be familiar with all K-way VOB members.

Terrain and Distance

There will be a few ups and downs, some jeep tracks and some single tracks    Distance in the order of 15 kms, taking around 2,5 – 3 hrs

I am sure there will be a relaxed group as well as a walking group

Please remember to adhere to the COVID rules below:

  • No gathering in a big group at the start or end of the run.
  • All runners to carry a mask or buff.
  • Practice social/physical distancing.
  • We will break into small groups as per regulations while we run.

Hi Trailers

As the Ultra trail Cape Town will be taking over the mountain and greenbelts on Saturday, we head down south to Cape Point again for one of our last official runs for 2021.

Note increase in park fees for those without Wild or Green cards. Cape Point is Cash-Free – NO cash accepted. Credit or Debit cards only

Route

We park at the lower parking at Buffelsbaai and run back up the tar road until the trail crossing. We turn left on to the single track and follow this all the way to the Whale watching point on the East side of the park. After checking for whales, we cross the road and continue south crossing the jeep track looking out for the left fork which will take us to the Erica hut. We admire the view and then take the single track down the hill, turn left at the jeep track, cross the road and run on the single track along the west side of the park following the coast until we get to Platboom. Here we turn up the road and run up the hill passing the Dias monument to the main road. We turn left on to this for 300m and then right down the hill back to the cars. This will give us around 11km

Rendezvous and start time

The park opens at 7am. The queues can be long so please arrive early. It is about an 8km drive from the gate to Buffelsbaai  so we will start running at 7h30 am.

Fwd: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS SATURDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2021 : NOORDHOEK BEACH

Good Friday All,

Tomorrow's beach run is confirmed. Low tide is at 9.30am, so we should have some nice firm sand to run on.
The weather is looking a little overcast so don't forget to bring a warm top.  Maybe leave your hat at home though - it probably won't stay on your head in the 40km/h bracing wind!

There will be a brisk walking group too.

See you at the beach parking lot at 6.25am.
:)

To: Table Mountain Trailers Group <tmtrailers@googlegroups.com>

Hi Trailers,

This week's run is a favourite of mine for its run-ability (no climbing!) and beautiful ocean atmosphere. It's a flat out and back from Noordhoek Beach to Slangkop Lighthouse, or wherever you decide to turn around.

Rendezvous and start time
RV in the main Noordhoek Beach parking lot at the end of Beach Road. Ready to start at 06:30.

Terrain and distance: Distance up to 14 kms depending on the distance before turning around, taking more or less 1 and a half to 2 hours. Hopefully on nice firm sand!

Groups: This is a pack run with regular regroups. We will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

What to bring: Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

ImportantPlease remember to make sure the people ahead of and behind you are not too far awayThere have been reports of incidences on the beach that we wish to avoid but following the 'safety in numbers' theory. Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left too far behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Walking group to be confirmed.

COVID BLURB:

We're on level 1 so we can relax a little but please remember to adhere to the basic COVID principles below:

  • All runners to carry a mask or buff
  • Practice social distancing
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home.
  • VOB reserves the right to stop TMT if the COVID infections increase again in the Western Cape.

See you all there!

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 6 November 2021 - Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we go up Table Mountain via Corridor Ravine to get to the 360 degree view from Grootkop. Back down Kasteelspoort.

.

Route

We park on Theresa Ave in Camps Bay – See directions below – and go up the jeep track keeping right until we reach the Pipe Track

We turn right and run along the Pipe Track, passing Woody Ravine until we take a left turn up Corridor. Once at the top we turn right and follow the track to Grootkop, turning right off the track to get to the top

After admiring the view, we re-trace our steps passing Corridor – possibly deviating to Tranquillity Cracks (time dependent) – till we get to Kasteelspoort where we descend to the Pipe Track and back down the jeep Track to the cars

For those that don't want to do Corridor and Grootkop, a shorter option is to go up Woody, turn left and go down Kasteelspoort. Also a good route.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:25am at Theresa Ave. We start running at 6h30am

Terrain and distance
Mostly single track except for the trek up to the pipe track. A climb to the top, flowing single track with a short climb to the top of Grootkop

The route is around 11km with the Woody Ravine option around 7km. The climbs take time so be sure to factor this in.

Groups
We will split into speed groups and possibly smaller groups as per regulations (keeping each other in sight) - with leaders and sweeps decided on the morning.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring

We park at Newland's Parking near the heli-pad and run up to the blockhouse. From the blockhouse we scramble up Mowbray Ridge (scrambling and exposure), take the upper contour round to ascend Devil's Peak. We come down to the saddle and descend via Newland's Ravine

For those that don't like exposure or scrambling, Lorraine will lead a group from the blockhouse along the lower contour to Oppelskop and back

Rendezvous and start time

Park at Newland's parking by 6h25am ready to start at 6:30am. Please arrive early – parking fills up fast.

Terrain & Distance

The route is  mainly single track with some jeep track. The Devil's Peak route is around 12km and the Oppelskop around 10km (distances estimated!)

Warning:  Trail running is inherently more dangerous than road running.  It may take place over uneven hazard strewn trails in exposed and often remote terrain where help is not always readily available.

Participation is voluntary and entirely at your own risk as although the organizers take reasonable precautions to ensure runner safety, it cannot be guaranteed.  To this end neither the Club nor the organisers personally can be held liable for any claims relating to inter alia, injuries, disabilities and death. Further any minor child participating in any trail running activity will be deemed to be doing so with the consent of his or her guardian.

By starting out on a trail run you explicitly acknowledge that:

1] you understand the associated risks involved and accept full responsibility for your own safety.

2] you are medically and physically fit to participate and

3] are carrying the necessary water, clothing and safety equipment required for the particular run.
