Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 24 May 2025 - Diagonal / Porcupine Ravine / Woody Ravine

Hi all Trailers

This week we will be starting from Theresa Ave in Camps Bay.

Route:

We start at Theresa Ave and climb up to meet the pipetrack and turn left to find the Diagonal path. After a steep climb up (hopefully with a bit of water trickling past us), there are many options depending on time constraints.  Instead of turning right at the top of Diagonal we will continue straight and head for Porcupine Ravine and explore a little at the top before descending via Woody Ravine.  From there it is 2km jog along the pipetrack down to the cars.

Rendezvous:

We meet in Theresa Ave (see below for directions) at 7.15am.  Please adhere to parking restrictions (yellow and red lines) and be considerate to all residents. Parking is limited.  Please park along the seaside and make sure that your car is facing the correct direction.

Terrain and distance:

This is mostly single track with a bit a of jeep track at the start and end. This route does have some exposure and a little rock scrambling, some steep climbs and descents, but the views are definitely worth it!

The distance is around 10km and there are ample routes for those who want a bit of extra distance

For those who would prefer a less challenging route, Missing Link is an option, as well as an out and back along the Pipetrack to Slangholie.  We will have a designated leader for this group, starting from the same place.

Directions:

Coming from town, pass the turnoff to the cable car at the Kloof Nek circle and continue down towards Camps Bay, taking the 3rd road to the left (Fiskaal Road). Follow this road up the hill - it winds up and around and becomes Francolin Ave and then Theresa Ave.

Remember:

Water, Whistle, Warm/windproof/rain top, ICE information and a snack.

Groups

This is a pack run with regular regroups, and we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Dogs

Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Any queries welcome.

Hi Trailers.

This week's run will offer us a nice climb with a fair bit of run-able sections.

Route details

Starting from the Zoo Parking inside UCT (there is a guard there),

From UCT car park, take the path past the zoo parking, turn into the gates and immediately go left and around the back of the dam. Loop back towards the top on the Rhodes Memorial climb. A short stretch on the tar brings you to a path to the left, climb to 230 m, turn left and then right up the road to the Newlands Link which takes you to the turnstile.

At the turnstile slight right and follow the Tafelberg Road until about 5 km and take left to go to the contour path. Return on the contour to above the Kings Block house. Drop back down to the turnstile and take the right fork option to get onto the contour path.

Stay on the Contour path until about 10 km and then go left down about 800m and turn left to cross the Newlands Stream. Follow this path until "the other woman" (+/- 12km) and turn right to return to the Rhodes Memorial Road. Follow the road back to the UCT parking lot.

This is a social pack run led by committee with plenty of opportunities for photographs, and it's important that we look out for each other!

Fwd: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 10th MAY 2025 - CONSTANTIA GREENBELTS AND CECILIA FOREST

Hi Trailers.

Sadly, we have had to move our run this week away from the intended Silvermine East route because of the recent fires.  So, this week will be a nice beginner-friendly / recovery type route from the Constantia Sports Complex (i.e the sports complex where the Constantia Virgin Active, Constantia Bowls and Totalsports VOB Running Club, Constantia Tennis Club, Claremont Cricket Club and False Bay Rugby Club are).

Route details

We will start from just inside the Constantia Sports Ground under the trees on the left just after the entrance gates.  From there we will run down the road to the start of the Alphen Trail and run up to the field at Le Seuer Ave where the Park Run will be getting ready.  Don't get lost amongst them.  We will go left into Le Seuer, left into Brommersvlei Road and first right into Rathfelder.  We run up the grass as far as the beautiful Bel Ombre park.  A loop around the park and then we take Avenue Beauvais and link up with the Diep River Trail. Up the Diep River Trail to Southern Cross Drive and cross Rhodes Avenue into Cecilia Forest. We will do a loop in Cecilia Forest and arrive in the Cecilia car park. From there we cross Rhodes Avenue again and do loop in the section of Kirstenbosch below the Rhodes before heading down the Klaasenbosch Trail to the Alphen Trail and back to the cars.

There should be three or four groups, depending on turnout and group leader availability on the day. But each group runs as a pack with regular regrouping and photos.

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the Constantia Sports Grounds at 07:00 "sign-in" briefing to start running 07:15 (dawn is 07h01 and sunrise is at 07h28).

Terrain and Distance

A mix of tar, jeep track and single track.

Distance: +- 12kms/15kms but only abut 250m of elevation.

The basic route is: https://strava.app.link/nKLXHK3r7Sb but the longer faster group may add on a little more in Cecilia Forest.

Walking group will be confirmed in Friday's mail.

*Please note adjustments to the route may be made whilst running depending on the group and weather conditions. Remember to check Friday's email just in case there are changes.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.

Currently, a chilly day is forecast, with rain.  So maybe start getting that rain jacket out, just in case.

Important: Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.  Please keep together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

PS  Sorry no dogs allowed on VOB runs

Have a great week!

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 3RD MAY 2025 - CECILIA RIDGE LOOP

Hi Trailers.

This week's run will offer us a good climb in some cooler weather.

Route details

Starting from the Cecilia Forest car park, we'll warm up running through the cork forest parallel to the road towards Constantia Nek until we meet the boom just above Southern Cross drive, where we'll turn right and loop back on ourselves keeping left at the fork and sticking to the jeep track running above the SANParks compound until the "big tree" intersection. Here we'll ascend the steep trail to Cecilia Waterfall.

A little further along the trail from the waterfall, we'll start climbing up Cecilia Ridge until we pop out on the concrete path with the Overseer's Cottage to our right where we'll enjoy the views and the breathlessness.  From here we can opt for an extension to loop around the dams or head straight back down on the Constantia Nek jeep track.

Since we all agree that jeep tracks are rather boring, we'll leave the degraded road/gravel at "look-out bend" (see map) and follow the single track zig zagging down through the trees, emerging at the jeep track at the first Rooikat trailhead.  Continuing down the single track through the trees, we'll rejoin the jeep track that will take us down to our cars.

This is a social pack run led by committee with plenty of opportunities for photographs, and it's important that we look out for each other!

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the Cecilia Forest car park at 07:00 sign-in to start running 07:15 (sunrise is at 07:21)

Please remember to support the car guard.

Terrain and Distance
