RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 28 November 2020 - Kalk Bay into Silvermine East

Hi Trailers!

Our run tomorrow is ON. The temperature looks great but it will be windy. It may be cold on top so please come prepared.

As we pass the entrance to Boomslang Cave on the way up, we may be able to persuade Geoff to take us through it… Not guaranteed, but we can try – only for those who want to

For those that are keen, please bring a light.

See you tomorrow

Hi Trailers!

Our run tomorrow is ON. Weather looks good – not too hot and a gentle wind but please always come prepared for all weather.

There will be NO relaxed or walking group.

But the medium group may well split into 2 and do both routes.

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 21 November 2020 - Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we go up Table Mountain via Corridor Ravine to get to the 360 degree view from Grootkop. Back down Kasteelspoort.

.

Route

We park on Theresa Ave in Camps Bay – See directions below – and go up the jeep track keeping right until we reach the Pipe Track

We turn right and run along the Pipe Track, passing Woody Ravine until we take a left turn up Corridor. Once at the top we turn right and follow the track to Grootkop, turning right off the track to get to the top

After admiring the view, we re-trace our steps passing Corridor – possibly deviating to Tranquillity Cracks (time dependent) – till we get to Kasteelspoort where we descend to the Pipe Track and back down the jeep Track to the cars

For those that don't want to do Corridor and Grootkop, a shorter option is to go up Woody, turn left and go down Kasteelspoort. Also a good route.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:25am at Theresa Ave. We start running at 6h30am

Terrain and distance
Mostly single track except for the trek up to the pipe track. A climb to the top, flowing single track with a short climb to the top of Grootkop

The route is around 11km with the Woody Ravine option around 7km. The climbs take time so be sure to factor this in.

Groups
We will split into speed groups and possibly smaller groups as per regulations (keeping each other in sight) - with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday

Dogs

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Directions to Theresa Ave:

Rendezvous and Start Time

RV in the parking area Newlands Fire Base 06:25 ready to start at 06:30.

Route details

Meet at the Newlands Fire Base parking (not Forries).

We warm up by heading in the direction of Kirstenbosch Gardens and turn up near the boundary.  We won't head all the way up to the contour but stick to the lower trails as we head in the direction of the blockhouse. We turn back above hospital bend, taking the lower road above Rhodes Memorial and head back to our cars.

Route may vary to the actual Beast route as the paths in Newlands Forest move often.

Please remember this a pack run, and its important that we look out for each other.

Terrain and Distance

Mostly forest paths and some jeep track.  Previous map, profile & GPX of the race attached for reference.

Distance: +- 12 kms taking about 2 - 2.5hrs for Medium Group

Relaxed Group to be confirmed on Friday.
