Saturday 14th December sees us meet for our last official sortie of 2019. We'll run one of our old familiar favourites, 3 Lookouts and a Peak, and celebrate the year's finale with a picnic brunch and a swim in the dam.
Route details
Starting at the car park nearest to the dam, we'll head towards the fire lookout over Tokai, meander towards Blackburn lookout and complete the circular route via Noordhoek Peak to the Noordhoek lookout. There are options to include the Panorama path, the Crassula Path, divert to Elephants Eye Cave and/or extend the distance with a jog down the River Walk. We'll organize group leaders and sweeps on the day.
Rendezvous and Start Time
According to the SANParks website, Gate 1 opens at 7am. Please make your way to the car park at the dam as quickly as possible. We'll start running as soon as possible (hopefully by 7:20).
There is an entrance fee of R32 for SA citizens. Please bring your ID book.
Terrain and Distance
Single track, jeep track, and a little bit of rock hopping. Depending on the group you join and the whim of the day, you'll run somewhere between 8 and 12km. This is a fairly flat route and very good for beginners.
Relaxed Group
There will be a Relaxed Group.
***Please let me know if you're keen to lead or join a brisk walk/hike. ***
Please bring:
A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 10km can take longer than a road 10km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.
If you're staying for a Christmas picnic, please bring a cooler box with your favourite snacks and cool drinks. Invite your home family to join you and meet your trail family!
Unfortunately we do not welcome dogs on our runs.
Have a great week!

Fwd: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 7th December 2019 - Constantia Nek/The Dams

Hi Trailers,
Can you believe it's December already? Where did the year go? This is our penultimate official run of 2019 and we've been invited to join MATES for their annual AGM and Christmas run/hike, so wear your best TMT gear and be prepared for a little rivalry and craziness… 😉
Route
The route, according to the CEO's instructional voice note, is as follows:
Starting at Constantia Nek, we'll be heading up the first set of steps to the jeep track, from there up to Constantia Corner, possibly via Agatha's Gulley and eventually to Camel Rock. There may be a little scrambling involved so, although the CEO assures me it is not a scary route, there will be an alternative for those not keen on heights/drops/base jumping.
Once at the top there are options to run around the dams and/or run straight back down the road. There's a part of the route that's described as 'wadda wadda' in the voice note. Should be interesting. 😊
Rendezvous and start time
The run starts at 7am at Constantia Nek car park so please be there by 6:50am to sign in and sort out the groups.
Terrain and distance
The usual lung-busting stairway-to-heaven start followed by a flattish run on single track and jeep track at the top followed by the helter-skelter concrete road down. Distance will depend on the route chosen and how keen you are to get back to base camp where the CEO will have the gazebo up and drinks and snacks ready. Best allow 2-3 hours.
Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning. The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday
Dogs
Please note that K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.
If you're staying for some refreshments afterwards, you may want to bring something to supplement the CEOs beers. I understand there will be some wadda wadda picnicky snacks and even some *&^%$# stuff for the vegetarians.
Important: Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going. Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.
Be there or be square…

Warning: Trail running is inherently more dangerous than road running. It may take place over uneven hazard strewn trails in exposed and often remote terrain where help is not always readily available.
Participation is voluntary and entirely at your own risk as although the organizers take reasonable precautions to ensure runner safety, it cannot be guaranteed. To this end neither the Club nor the organisers personally can be held liable for any claims relating to inter alia, injuries, disabilities and death. Further any minor child participating in any trail running activity will be deemed to be doing so with the consent of his or her guardian.
By starting out on a trail run you explicitly acknowledge that:
1] you understand the associated risks involved and accept full responsibility for your own safety.
2] you are medically and physically fit to participate and
3] are carrying the necessary water, clothing and safety equipment required for the particular run.
