TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Saturday 03 November 2018: Front Face & Deer Park

Good Morning Trailers

The route this week is the City Bowl side, doing a variation of the old and new VWS (Volunteer Wildfire Services) short route.

Route details

As the gate for Deer Park only opens at 07:00, we will be meeting at the Kloof Neck* parking area at the bottom of Tafelberg Road.
*note the attached route map shows the start in Deer Park

Inline image

We warm up with a lung busting climb up the Kloof Corner steps.  We then get to stretch our legs and take in the full glory of the waking CBD as we run along the front face contour path above the cable station.  We turn down before we get to Platteklip Gorge (unless we miss the turn off in which case we run down Platteklip Gorge) to Tafelberg Road.  We turn right on Tafelberg Road and take in a little tar before we turn down left into Deer Park.  After a little loop above the 3 Towers we head back through Deer Park (be aware the "up" is not done yet) returning to Kloof Neck parking.

Please remember this a pack run, so we try to stay together (if numbers allow we do usually break into different pace groups) but do look to make sure the runner behind you is not too far behind and has seen a turn in the route.

Rendezvous and Start Time

To beat the heat please RV in the parking area 06:25 ready to start at 06:30.

Terrain and Distance

A mix of jeep track, single track and a touch of tar.

Distance: +- 12 kms taking about 2h00 - 2h30mins for Medium Group

Fast Group
Will follow a similar route with an extension to be decided on the day.

Relaxed Group to be confirmed.

*Please note adjustments to the route may be made whilst running depending on the group and weather conditions.

Please bring:

A whistle, water (extra important in the heat), a waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE tag or card.

Unfortunately no dogs.

Have a great week!

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 27 October 2018 - VLAKKENBERG

Hi Trailers,

This week we will be doing our old, familiar Vlakkenberg route – in reverse!

Route

Instead of the leg-deadening uphill slog behind the Silvermist restaurant, we'll start our run more gently by heading a little further down the main road until we see the pipe track on our left.  We'll head up and along the gently undulating jeep track, all the way along behind the houses until we reach the turn up into Bokkemanskloof.  Here we'll climb the mountainside between the cool vegetation and pop out on the plateau at the top.

From here we'll hang a right toward Picnic Rock for the customary group photo. (The Faster group may decided to run on to the Manganese Mines from here.)  Photo snapped, we'll turn on our heels and make our way back to Vlakkenburg Peak itself, before heading down the steps behind Silvermist restaurant, and back to the cars.

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Constantia Nek car park ready to start running at 6:45am. Please arrive early for check-in and safety briefing.

Terrain & Distance

This route is made up of jeep track, single track, and steps. The main group will cover about 11km in 2 to 2,5 hours.

What to bring

Water – lots! It's going to be a very hot day. Also a whistlea space blanket and your ICE information . It is getting warmer these mornings so please don't forget to put on sunblock before you leave home.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not welcome dogs on its runs.

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - It's Tee Shirt order time again!

Hi Trailers,

Where did 2018 go? We're almost at the end, with only 10 more sorties to go before our final run and annual picnic! We thought that those of you that have been running fairly regularly this year may be in need of a fresh tee shirt to pop under the Xmas tree and now is the time to order.

The tee shirt protocol
The all-comers tee shirt is white with green printing. This is available to anybody who has run with us. 25 sorties earns you the right to wear a red tee shirt; 50 sorties a green one, 75 a blue and 100 a black. There are variations for the over-achievers who are up in the hundreds. Check the Runner's Log on the Blog to see what you are likely to achieve over the next few weeks. You may order your upcoming recognition colour now, but you will only be presented with it when you have actually done the graft!

Please see the attached order form for further details about sleeve style and gender cuts.

CLOSING DATE FOR ORDERS IS 19th OCTOBER!

Regards.
