TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 2 JULY 2022: Devil's Peak

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we will circumnavigate that big rock to the left of Table Mountain

Route

We park at Newlands parking area (near the helicopters).  We go up behind the helicopters and go up…  To the turnstile, past the King's blockhouse, up Mowbray ridge to the top contour.  There are some options from the blockhouse…  Instead of going up Mowbray, you can turn right and do the lower contour, or go up Mowbray and do the middle contour, or come with us and do the top contour.  We then go around the front of Devil's peak – high up with lovely views, and end up at that little saddle where we go up to the top of the Devil.  Then down to the top of Newlands Ravine and back to the cars.

There will be a relaxed group doing a less demanding Newlands meander

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Newland parking area to be ready to run at 7h30am.

Terrain & Distance

There will be some jeep track to start, then lots of single track and climbs and descents.  About 10km, but do not be fooled, it is a tough 10km and is not quick.

What to bring

Water, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be different up on the mountain. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Please be aware that our runs operate under the modified COVID protocols

  • All runners to carry a mask or buff
  • Practice social distancing
  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home

RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 25 JUNE 2022: Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Morning trailers!

Our run tomorrow is ON!

The weather looks clear with a gentle breeze, but it will be chilly up on the mountain so come prepared.

The rest of us will be going up Corridor Ravine

See you there

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 25 JUNE 2022: Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers

This Saturday we return to Theresa Avenue to explore the pipe track, admire the newly renovated Corridor Ravine and visit Grootkop, where hopefully we will see the spectacular view. On the way back there is the option of visiting Tranquility Cracks.

There is a shorter option that avoids Corridor Ravine but includes Tranquility Cracks

Route

We park at Theresa Avenue and climb up to the pipe track. We turn right and run along the pipe track to Corridor, hike up Corridor and turn right to run through to Grootkop.  After ascending Grootkop for the view and photos, we return the same way but run past Corridor Ravine on to Tranquility Cracks and then along to Kasteelspoort and down

For those that don't enjoy going through to Corridor, the shorter option is to run along the pipe track to Woody Ravine, climb Woody, turn right and go through to Tranquility Cracks and then return back along the track to Kasteelspoort

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Theresa Avenue at the entrance to the Hike (not the end of the road) at 7h20am - ready to run at 7h30am.

Terrain & Distance

The route is mostly single track with a fair bit of elevation, but mostly runnable.

The planned route is around 12km and the shorter route around 10km .

What to bring

Water, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be different up on the mountain. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!

TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: THURSDAY 16 JUNE 2022 - K-WAY VOB TOAD2TOAD CHALLENGE - PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE

Good morning Trailers

Please note that Table Mountain Trailers will be running on Thursday morning instead of Saturday

Two reasons:  many people are creating a long weekend and going away.  Also, the long range weather forecast for Saturday is not great (to say the least).

This Thursday we will be running the Toad2Toad route.  Direction, Lakeside to Noordhoek.  It is a point-to-point, so some car admin is necessary.

Special notes

  • Regarding transport:

Please note that you are essentially in charge of your own transport arrangements i.e. we start in Lakeside and end in Noordhoek.  What we normally do in these situations is encourage as many people as possible to meet at The Toad in Noordhoek by 06h45 latest.  We leave as many cars as possible and climb into as few cars as possible and drive to the start.  But we can discuss this on the TMT WhatsApp Group and make other plans as well.  But I (Tim) at least will go to Noordhoek at 06h45 to see if anyone wants to make an arrangement.

  • Regarding Other:

K-Way VOB members only, remember you can sign up for the K-Way VOB Toad2Toad Challenge.  Details on the club email.

Start Time and Place

07h30 sharp.  The parking area of The Toad-on-the Road in Lakeside (on the corner of Boyes Drive and the Main Road).

Please get there at least 10 minutes early to sign the register.

Route

In a nutshell, from the Toad-on-the-Road, along Boyes Drive for 1.8km and then up into Silvermine East, down the valley to the Sunbird Centre, up to and across Ou Kaapseweg and then down through Noordhoek side roads to the finish at the Toad-in-the-Village in Noordhoek Village for beer and pizza.

I have been assured that the route we have chosen is considered the Up run (which intuitively doesn't seem right).  The Strava route is below.  But I have also inserted both routes after that.

We will split into groups on the day.

What to bring

Good Morning Trailers

It's high time we checked out those magical single tracks in Newlands forest again!

Route details

We'll warm up by heading towards Kirstenbosch and turn up near the boundary.  We won't head all the way up to the contour but stick to the lower trails as we head in the direction of the blockhouse. We'll turn back above hospital bend, taking the lower road above Rhodes Memorial and head back to our cars.
