TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Sat 29 June: Front Face

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we return to Table Mountain Front Face before the route is shut down from 15 July to 1 Sep due to cable car maintenance.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at 7:20 am
at Kloof Nek top parking above MyCiti parking. We start running at 7:30 am.

PS there is now a Coffee Box in the parking lot.

How to get there?

Drive up Kloof Nek Rd to the top and follow the signs to the Cable Station. After turning left onto Tafelberg Rd you will see a parking area on your left, it has two levels, turn left into the upper level.

Terrain and distance

Singletrack, technical, 'undulating'. 10-14 km's depending on whether you turn around at Platties (7km return) or go to Oppelskop and return. 2h30ish. Not for those afraid of heights.

NB: Also important to note is that we cannot take the short cut up steps and through the pine forest due to roadworks, so we will go carefully up the road to the Kloof corner steps.

Route

A straightforward out and back run along the scenic trail across the North Face of Table Mountain to Oppelskop and return.

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

Dogs

Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring

Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket - weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

At this time of year, the weather can change fast. Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water.

Relaxed group: Route to be decided on the day.

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no one is left on their own.

See you there!

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 22nd June 2024 - Up Oudekraal Ravine - Yellow Wood Traverse - Corridor Ravine

Hello Trailers

This week we will start from Theresa Ave above Camps Bay.

Route:

We start at Theresa Ave (see below for directions) and climb up to meet the pipetrack.  From here we turn right and run along the pipetrack through Slanghole to the Oudekraal Ravine track.  After a very steep climb up, we plan to do a route around the base of Grootkop called the Yellowwood Traverse.  This is not a runnable route, but it does promise some beautiful views, a bit of scrambling and some caves to explore.   We will head down Corridor Ravine back to the cars.

Rendezvous:

We meet at Theresa Ave in Camps Bay at 7.20am for sign-in and run briefing.  We will start running at 7.30am.

Terrain and distance:

This is mostly single track with a bit a of jeep track at the start and end. Some steepish climbs (😊) and descents, but well worth the views. The distance is about 10km but could take a little longer than the usual 2.5 hours.

Directions to the start:

Coming from town, pass the turnoff to the cable car and continue down towards Camps Bay, taking the 3rd road to the left (Fiskaal Road). Follow this road up the hill - keeping LEFT.  It becomes Francolin Ave and then Theresa Ave. Parking at the entrance is limited so park along the sea side of the road as far as possible taking care not to block any resident' s driveways or entrances. Please ensure that your car is facing the correct direction.

Weather:

At this stage, Saturday's weather looks cool and cloudy.  No rain forecast, but this is Cape Town so anything can happen.  Come prepared!

Remember to bring:

Water, Whistle, Warm/windproof top, ICE information and a snack.

This is a pack run so we are to look out for each other and ensure that the person behind knows we have turned.

We regroup frequently to ensure that everyone sticks together.

There will be a relaxed group led by Gaeleen but they will be doing the Missing Link.  Please note that they are meeting in a different place to the runners.  If you plan to join the relaxed group, please meet at the bottom of Theresa Avenue, at the start of the Missing Link trail.

Unfortunately VOB do not allow dogs to accompany us on our runs.

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

For any queries, please Whatsapp me.
