Our first run of the new year with an earlier start, a tough route and coinciding with a popular road race, didn't seem to affect our numbers and we had 35 runners for this week's run, including some newbies and an overseas visitor.
After a short briefing, including various options of the route, we all set off up the steps to the first contour path.
At this point the main group set off on the Eagles Nest /Constantia Corner route, and were not seen again until the end of the run.
The main group followed the Smuts Track to Skeleton gorge, and returned via Ash Valley.
They completed a distance of 11.07 km in 2h26 (including stopping for a cool off at the dams)
Fast group leaders!
The medium group tackled the second set of steps and then made their way past the overseer's hut and onto Smuts track.
Once they reached the top of nursery ravine, it was a short backtrack, group photo opportunity and onto the dams.
The medium group!
The plan was to pick up the 2nd path to Ash valley, but the front runners sped off along the contour road and only stopped to regroup again at the overseers hut.
From there it was downhill and back to the cars - some running the jeep track (for extra distance) and others taking the steps. Total distance (jeep track version) of 12.41 km in 2h15.
The slow group consisted of only a few ladies - they made their way up to the overseers hut, and onto Smuts track, a bit of bundu bashing near Alexandra/Victoria dams and then returned to the cars. Distance of about 8 km in a time of 2h20.
