Hi Trailers,
Saturday 11th December sees us meet for our last official sortie of 2021. We'll run one of our old familiar favourites, 3 Lookouts and a Peak, and celebrate the year's finale with a picnic brunch and a swim in the dam.
Route details
Starting at the car park nearest to the dam, we'll head towards the fire lookout over Tokai, meander towards Blackburn lookout and complete the circular route via Noordhoek Peak to the Noordhoek lookout. There are options to include the Panorama path, the Crassula Path, divert to Elephant's Eye Cave and/or extend the distance with a jog down the River Walk. We'll organize group leaders and sweeps on the day.
Rendezvous and Start Time
Gate 1 opens at 8am so please make your way to the car park at the dam as quickly as possible. We'll start running as soon as possible - latest 8:15am.
NB: There is no cellphone signal in Silvermine so if you are running late, there is no way to let us know. Don't be late!
Entry fee to Silvermine is still amazing value but note that it increased last month:
R36 per adult Additionally: R25 per vehicle (I'll confirm this in Friday's email but start planning your lift club!)
Please bring your ID book to prove you are a SA national.
Alternatively, buy a MyGreen card at the Tokai SANParks office this week, or carry your Wild card.
Terrain and Distance
Single track, jeep track, and a little bit of rock hopping. Depending on the group you join and the whim of the day, you'll run somewhere between 8 and 12km. This is a fairly flat route and very good for beginners.
Relaxed Group
There will be a Relaxed Group.
***Please let me know if you're keen to lead or join a brisk walk/hike. ***
Please bring:
A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 10km can take longer than a road 10km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.
If you're staying for a Christmas picnic, please bring a cooler box with your favourite snacks and cool drinks. Invite your home family to join you and meet your trail family!
Unfortunately we do not welcome dogs on our runs.
And here's the Covid bit:
Please be aware that our runs operate under strict COVID protocols even though now on level 1.
- All runners to carry a mask or buff
- Practice social distancing
- We will break into small groups as per regulations while we run
- Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
- We will monitor the groups on a weekly basis for size
- VOB reserves the right to stop TMT if the COVID infections increase again in the Western Cape
- If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home
Have a great week!
Regards
Lorraine
