This was our first spring run in the Silvermine Nature Reserve and 38 of us joined up with Tim's long distance group for a 0715 start. We kicked off the event with the New Balance Lucky shoe draw which was won by one of our more regular runners -Anne O'Gorman. Congratulations Anne, please contact Gaeleen who has your voucher.
This was followed by Tim giving a moving eulogy to Winston Wilson who unexpectedly passed away last week. Winston was a well liked and respected trail runner who ran with us on occasion, Tim then asked for a minute's silence in memory of him.
The long distance group then set off on their run and we jogged along the sandy path to the start of the long climb up to the saddle between Wolkkop and Steenberg Peak. Then it was a gentle downhill run to the aerial farm and up again to the ridge path overlooking Muizenberg. We passed a lively group assembled to sing revival songs who cheered us on our way as we ran through the fynbos to the lookout point on St James Peak and then down to the gravel track past Nellie's Pool.
From there it was a good run along the sandy/rocky trail overlooking the gravel road then back to the parking area.
One of our more demanding runs covering a distance of 9.1 km which we completed in under 2 hrs.
Decurions
Well done to Alyce Solomon who has now competed 10 sorties with our group.
Red Tee Shirts
With the introduction of our own Table Mountain Trailers tee shirts we also introduced a reward shirt for those who have completed 25 sorties. This shirt is red as opposed to the normal white. The following are approaching 25: Pat 1 sortie to go; Veronica and Neil 3 sorties; Felicity 5 and Sandy, Sam and Rudolph 8 to go.
Thought for the week
