Table Mountain Trailers Feedback Sat 1 Oct: Simon'sTown & Scala

24 of us assembled in the Simon'sTown Long Beach parking area and after handing out our new running shirts we warmed up along the Main Road before taking a right and heading up the hill.   From then on it was pure climbing for the next 25 minutes.  360 odd steps that meander under the pylons of the old cableway and which eventually crest the mountain at Just Nuisance's grave.  Time to admire the view over False Bay and a quick photo then we more or less split into two groups as we ran through the Old Signal School to the cry of  "you are looking good" from the security guard.Crossing the Red Hill road we joined the Kleinplaas hiking trail through the fynbos which was in its Spring glory with wild flowers and bird life aplenty.  After a 3k loop we made our way down  Redhill road turned into the Navy's Scala Battery area and down the now disused concrete road to join the Main Road and back to the parking area 11.5 kms and more or less 2hrs+ running time.  Not one of our easier routes.

After the run several of us took up Randolph's invitation to tea in his Smitswinkel bay beach cottage which can only be accessed by foot down the steep incline.  Lovely peaceful place were we relaxed over tea and muffins to the sound of the breakers before walking along    the beach path to see the sea-cave.  Getting back up to the road was another matter as by now our legs had cooled down!    A big thank you to Randolph for sharing with us this beautiful spot.
