FEEDBACK SATURDAY 8TH JULY 2017 - Simonstown Steps- Kleinplaas - La Scala Battery

Let's begin today's report with hearty congratulations to Neil Gerbers on his 150th sortie with the Trailers! This fabulous achievement is only topped this very same week by a very special birthday... We won't say which ,but the first digit lies somewhere between 5 and 7 and the second digit might just be a 0. ;)  Have a great one, Neil!

This week's run took us to a dark start on Long Beach, Simonstown, beneath heavy clouds and the promise of lots of rain later in the day. A smallish crowd was mustered this week, probably partly due to the weather, but also the school holidays are upon us (can it be that time of year already?) and the fact that this route might be a little too 'tarry' for many of our regulars.

We set off a little confused about which road to take (Lorraine was wrong, Neil was right) and slogged up the steps to the old naval base. The sky put on a stunning show of colours for us as we climbed.

Up...
... and up.

Just Nuisance's grave seems to have been slightly vandalised - the poles were missing - possibly made a few bucks for someone as scrap metal.

The old buildings are a bit run down.

Finally, sun up!

Snapping the snapper
The fire made some amazing sculptures
Beautiful colours in the sky and a weary Gaeleen

A triangular signpost seemed perfect for a posed shot
And Laura got into the swing of things.

Perched on a cannon, as you do.
Laura and Nothemba. Hmmm. ;)
The Fast Group were as small as ants and we left them to eat our dust.

Reminders of the proximity of the fires to suburbia

Not very lady-like, climbing over the wall

All in all, we were 17 Trailers. The small 4-man Fast group ran about 14kms, the Mediums about 10.5 kms and the Gentle group ran about 8.5kms. We all met up at the end in just under 2 hours.
We did manage to beat the rain. :)
