TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - Saturday 25th January 2020 - Newlands Forest

Hi,

 

How about ending January – yes! already! - with a cool, shady run in Newlands forest? Something like the old Two Oceans 10km route, give or take a path here and a rock there.

 

Brief description of route

We'll head up the Rhodes Mem hill past the old zoo to pick up the Silvertree Trail, nip over to the Woodcutters Path, and wend our way in a south-westerly direction until we can go no further. Hopefully, we'll pass Lady Barnard's cottage and some trickling streams along the way. Highlights will include the intoxicating scent of the forest floor and the magic of dappled sunshine through the trees.

 

Terrain and distance

We'll try to run on undulating single tracks as much as possible, with the odd jeep track thrown in for sanity. The medium group will cover more or less 10 km. This is a short run: we usually finish in about 90 minutes. Tim's group may go a little further.

 

Rendezvous and start time

We'll start at the UCT Upper Campus South parking lot at 6.30am. From the southern suburbs, take the M3 offramp into UCT campus and loop around, keeping left, until you start heading off campus again. If you're coming from town/north, take exit 7 and drive all the way through campus and out the other side. You'll see a parking lot with trees as you exit.

Please be there by 6.25am latest to sign the register and for a short briefing.

 

 

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups. We will split into various speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.
The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday.
* Please note that our relaxed group is a running group, not a walking or hiking group. *

 

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
 
What to bring
Compulsory kit: Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.
The weather looks to be warm and sunny so please carry plenty of water and wear sunscreen.


Important: 

Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.   
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.
