TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 19 September 2020 - Newlands Forest and surrounds

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday Tim Bellairs leads his first official TMT route 😊 despite being an unofficial leader for years! Welcome Tim!

Please remember to adhere to the COVID rules below

  • No gathering in a big group at start or end of the run
  • All runners to carry a mask or buff
  • Practice social distancing
  • We will break into small groups as per regulations while we run
  • No personal sign in – ensure the leader ticks you in/out. Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • We will monitor the groups on a weekly basis for size
  • VOB reserves the right to stop TMT if the COVID infections increase again in the Western Cape
  • If you have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, please stay at home
  • If you are not comfortable with group running yet, you can use the maps to enjoy the routes in your own time

This Saturday we park at Newlands Forest parking and follow Tim to the zoo, Rhodes memorial, Newlands forest and towards Constantia Nek.

Route
We meet at Newlands Forest parking - off Union Avenue (M3). Please try and arrive early as the parking gets very full

A gentle start over to the zoo and UCT and then up to Rhodes Mem. We will work our way back to the forest on the jeep track above Rhodes Mem, up the Heroes path and towards Constantia Nek. This part will be variable according to the weather.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:55am at Newlands Forest parking. We start running at 7am

Terrain and distance
Degraded jeep track and single track.

The route is around 12km and will take around 2h30

Groups
We will split into 2 speed groups (medium and faster) and possibly smaller groups as per regulations (keeping each other in sight) - with leaders and sweeps decided on the morning.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket- weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

At this time of year, the weather can change fast. Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

See you there!
Tim
