Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 7 AUGUST 2021: KALK BAY, SUNBIRD CENTRE, SILVERMINE EAST

Hi Trailers

Saturday's route is from Kalk Bay, via Sunbird centre and up to Silvermine East. There are lots of routes available once in in Silvermine to suit everyone's distance and time requirements

Route

From the car park at Kalk Bay station we climb the steps to Boyes Drive and turn left to get to the Trappieskop path. We go up and over the saddle down towards the path that runs above Clovelly road coming down just before the golf course. We run on the jeep track past the golf course, eventually turning right on to the sunbird centre track that leads up to Dead Man's Path. At the T-junction with Dead Man's Path we turn left and make our way to the SIlvermine Waterfall. We can visit this as a bonus if there's good water. At this point we have done around 8km

From here there are a number of options to get back with different distances and terrain

  1. Turn right on to  the old fisherman's path, cross the jeep track on to the Crassula path, go through the amphitheatre and down Echo valley and Weary Willy's back to the cars (+- 4.5 km of single track): total around 12-13km
  2. Pass the Fisherman's trail turning and turn right at the jeep track junction taking either jeep track or single track to junction pool, turn right and run towards Nellie's pool continuing straight on the jeep track down towards Weary Willys (+-5.5km of mostly runnable jeep track ending on single track): total around 13 – 14km
  3. Pass the Fisherman's trail turning and turn right at the jeep track junction taking either jeep track or single track to junction pool, turn right and run towards Nellie's pool taking the single track on the right just before Nellie's Pool, crossing the jeep track on to Speciosa Valley and coming down Spes Bona Valley to meet up with Weary Willy's (+-7k of mostly single track) Total around 15 – 16km

OR

  1. For those that want a shorter distance turn right on to the first jeep track after dead man's path (before reaching waterfall) and follow the jeep track turning right to continue on jeep track at the junction and down to Weary Willy's (single track) total around 10 -11 km

Disclaimer: Distances are very approximate!

Rendezvous and start time

Meet at Kalk Bay station parking /Cape to Cuba opposite the stairs ready to start running at 7h30am. Please arrive early for parking, check-in and safety briefing.

Terrain & Distance

The route is a mixture of single track and Jeep track depending on the option chosen. The start is a climb but it's very runnable past the golf course and on the Sunbird path. The terrain and distance of the options in Silvermine are described above
