TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 30 October Hole in the Wall

Hi Trailers,

Next Saturday  30th October, we'll meet at Hole in the Wall and do some running in Silvermine East and tag a peak or two.  See attached suggested route.

Route
We meet at Hole in the Wall on Boyes Drive and start the trek up Farmer Peck's Valley. Just before we meet the jeep track at the top we turn right to take in Muizenberg Peak. Descending from the peak we take the jeep track and make our way towards Junction pool, the amphitheatre and then go past Tartarus cave and head to St James' Peak .  After admiring the views, we head back down Farmer Peck's Valley and to the cars.  There are a few short cuts available too.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:25am at Hole In the Wall (Peck's Valley) ready to run at 6:30am.

Terrain and distance
Single track and jeep tracks. Uphill start and then undulating in Silvermine. Around 11 – 14km depending on the route chosen

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

There will be a Power walking group, that may run on occasion too!

I will confirm on Friday if there will be a walking group

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Directions:

From Steenberg Golf course side, travel along Boyes Drive towards Kalk Bay, past the Old Boyes Drive turn off and down the hill (beware speed trap camera). Just after the houses on the right end and you start going up the hill, there is a stone wall with a small opening signposted as Peck's Valley. Park on the left ensuring you are out of the way of traffic.

From Kalk Bay, travel along past the shark Spotters and Bailey's Kloof sign and the next access point is Peck's Valley. You can park on the right hand side (facing the correct way) or travel down the hill where there is some space on the left.

Please remember to adhere to the COVID rules below:

  • No gathering in a big group at the start or end of the run.
  • All runners to carry a mask or buff.
  • Practice social/physical distancing.

Warning Trail running is inherently more dangerous than road running.  It takes place over uneven hazard strewn trails in exposed and often remote terrain where help is not always readily available.

Participation is voluntary and entirely at your own risk as although the organizers take reasonable precautions to ensure runner safety, it cannot be guaranteed.  To this end neither the Club nor the organisers personally can be held liable for any claims relating to inter alia, injuries, disabilities and death. Further any minor child participating in any trail running activity will be deemed to be doing so with the consent of his or her guardian.

By starting out on a trail run you explicitly acknowledge that: 1] you understand the associated risks involved and accept full responsibility for your own safety. 2] you are medically and physically fit to participate and 3] are carrying the necessary water, clothing and safety equipment required for the particular run.
