TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS Sat 2 March: East Fort

Hi Trailers!
This week we return to Hout Bay for a mix of trail and road.

Route Overview
We'll warm up with a smooth road run to the start of the trail at East Fort. We'll start up the mountain on the trail at the Fort and continue up the jeep track until we reach the split to the higher contour path, where we may break into differing speed groups. We'll end up at Blackburn Ravine and follow the contour path towards Chapmans Peak.  At approximately 7km, the longer/faster group may extend the run up to the summit of Chapmans Peak. The relaxed group will head down to Chapmans Peak drive for the road-sprint back to our cars.

Terrain and Distance

A mix of jeep track, single track and tar.
+- 12 kms taking about 2h00 - 2h30mins (possibly longer if you take the Chapmans Peak extension)

Rendezvous and Start Time
RV in the parking area at the bottom of Chapman's Peak Drive, near the Life Saving club, at 06:25 ready to start at 06:30 (sunrise-ish).

Walking Group arranged via WhatApp group.

Please bring:
A whistle, WATER (remember a trail 12km can take longer than a road 12km), a warm & waterproof/windproof top, space blanket and ICE (In case of Emergency) tag or card.

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed on our runs.

See you there!

Re: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 10TH FEBRUARY 2024 - MYBURGH'S RAVINE WATERFALL AND LLANDUDNO RAVINE

Good Friday Trailers!

The weather looks lovely for tomorrow's run.

Please note that there is quite a bit of exposure on the Llandudno Ravine section. If you're not good at staples and vertiginous drop-offs, please turn back with the relaxed group.

No walkers group.

See you at 6:00.

Good Monday Trailers!

This week's route will be a new one for us - at least I can't see any record of having done it before on our blog!

We'll meet at the start of the trail near Suikerbossie Restaurant and take the flat  trail through to Myburgh's Ravine Waterfall, where the relaxed group will split off and take the path until they reach Orange Kloof fence then turn around, and the stronger group will head up the Ravine to visit Judas Peak and return down Llandudno Ravine.

It'll be a shortish run for the relaxed group: about 8kms in total, but a lovely one nonetheless.  Also great for the walkers – to be confirmed on Friday. The longer group will of course enjoy the 650m elevation, and the stunning views from the top.

DIRECTIONS:

Type Suikerbossie Restaurant into your GPS. Please do not park in the restaurant's parking lot though. There is ample parking in the designated parking area in front of the Ruyteplaats security gates.

TIME:

Let's meet at 6.00am for a 6:10 start again as it is still very hot.

BRING:

Loads of water – there probably won't be much if any on the mountain at this time of year.

Something warm – the weather can change quickly over the mountain

ICE information of some sort.

Whistle, first aid, snacks, etc per normal trail running protocols.

Money for brekkie at Suikerbossie afterwards, if you like.

See you there!

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 3 February 2024: Annual Red Disa Run from Constantia Nek

Hi Trailers

The red disas have arrived early this year and are already putting on a good show, so we are moving our annual red disa run up by 1 week to Saturday 3 Feb.

We will start at Constantia Nek as this is the quickest way up and hopefully we can beat the hot weather predicted for later on in the day by starting early.

Route

From the start at Constantia Nek we take the shortcuts to avoid the windy jeep track and walk/run up to just past the overseer's hut where we turn right on to the single track. Some good flowing single track takes us to the ash valley junction where those who want a shorter route can continue straight on, go along Hely-Hutchinson wall and turn right to see the disas at the bottom of the aqueduct. They can then return to the dam wall and make their way home .

The rest of us turn right and follow Smuts Track to the aqueduct junction. Here we turn left and run all the way down aqueduct/disa valley admiring the disas along the way. At the intersection near the waterworks museum, we carry on along the jeep track and turn left to cross the dam wall at Woodhead. At the jeep track we turn left and run to the junction to take us to nursery valley and back home along the single track and shortcuts

Rendezvous and start time

We meet at the Constantia Nek parking at 6am as the parking gets really full really fast. We will start running at 6h10am.

Terrain & Distance

A mixture of jeep track and single track. Distances estimated.

  • Shorter run is around 9 - 10km
  • Longer run is around 14 - 16km

What to bring

Enough water for hot weather, appropriate clothes for possible misty, windy weather, whistlea space blanket and your ICE information

Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate gear, water and food.

Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

  • Please carry emergency contact numbers in your bag or on your wrist/shoe
  • If you are not well, please stay at home
