Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 24 February 2024: Helderberg Nature Reserve (ENTRY FEE - R20/car; R30/adult; R20/senior citizen)

Hi Trailers

Next Saturday we're going visiting! Helderberg Nature Reserve is a great place for a run or a walk. There are lots of routes going up or down the mountain. Not much flat.

The reserve opens at 7h30 and there's usually a queue to get in so we'll start at 8am

Route

Longer route: We'll start at the info centre and run clockwise up to Sugarbird, turn right until protea turnoff, turn left up Protea, left and around Leopard's Loop turning down at Dark Gorge, cross the river and run down Waboom turning right on to Watsonia for a bit, left on to Protea and left on to Sugarbird to get home.

Shorter route: The same start but continue round Protea (don't turn up Leopard's Loop). Protea will take you down to Sugarbird which will bring you home.

Rendezvous and start time.

It is 52km from Plumstead and takes 45 minutes to get there on the N2, will be less from the north.

The reserve opens at 7h30 and there's usually a queue to get in. Find some parking and meet at the Info centre ready to run at 8am

Terrain & Distance

Mostly jeep track with some single track on the longer route. Lots of ascent and descent.

Very runnable.

Flat only around the dam

  • Shorter run is around 8km – extra loops can be done from Sugarbird.
  • Longer run is around 12km – extra loops or short cuts are available.
