TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 6 November 2021 - Corridor Ravine and Grootkop

Hi Trailers!

This Saturday we go up Table Mountain via Corridor Ravine to get to the 360 degree view from Grootkop. Back down Kasteelspoort.

.

Route

We park on Theresa Ave in Camps Bay – See directions below – and go up the jeep track keeping right until we reach the Pipe Track

We turn right and run along the Pipe Track, passing Woody Ravine until we take a left turn up Corridor. Once at the top we turn right and follow the track to Grootkop, turning right off the track to get to the top

After admiring the view, we re-trace our steps passing Corridor – possibly deviating to Tranquillity Cracks (time dependent) – till we get to Kasteelspoort where we descend to the Pipe Track and back down the jeep Track to the cars

For those that don't want to do Corridor and Grootkop, a shorter option is to go up Woody, turn left and go down Kasteelspoort. Also a good route.

Rendezvous and start time
Meet at
6:25am at Theresa Ave. We start running at 6h30am

Terrain and distance
Mostly single track except for the trek up to the pipe track. A climb to the top, flowing single track with a short climb to the top of Grootkop

The route is around 11km with the Woody Ravine option around 7km. The climbs take time so be sure to factor this in.

Groups
We will split into speed groups and possibly smaller groups as per regulations (keeping each other in sight) - with leaders and sweeps decided on the morning.

The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket- weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

The weather can change fast on the top of the mountain. Please make sure that you are carrying the right equipment, enough food and water

ImportantPlease remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Directions to Theresa Ave:

From Cape Town, drive past the entrance to the Cable Car and continue down Camps Bay Drive. Turn left at the third road – Fiskaal – and zig zag up the mountain. The road becomes Francolin and eventually Theresa.

Park on the Sea side of the road facing the correct direction. Don't block any residents' driveways.

Please remember to adhere to the COVID principles below:

  • No gathering in a big group at start or end of the run

Subject: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS: Saturday 16 October 2021 - Klassenkop Peak (and the enchanted tree...)
To: <tmtrailers@googlegroups.com>

Hi Trailers!

This week we are on the hunt for arguably the most ilusive and mysterouis of the 13 Peaks. Klassenkop. It is a peak that we have blissfully run past many times but one we will find by climbing through an enchanted tree (that's not a typo...it can only be reached THROUGH a tree).

Route (see attached map)

We begin from Cecilia Forest parking. From the parking we start gently up the hill and take a long loopy left towards the Neck. We then sharp right to backtrack towards the SANPARKS houses, left up a single track onto the top road and down toward the knobbly jeep track and top of Kirstenbosch. We then take the split toward Rooikat and eventually start the climb up the sheer cliff face to the top of the mountain near the Overseer cottage. Once at the top we congratulate ourselves, take a pic or two and head onto the tar track and De Villiers Dam. The hunt for that tree begins to the left and upwards of the dam. After more high fives tagging Klassenkop (the12th Peak) we head back to the dam, go clockwise around the dam and exit back near the cottage. We begin our long fast downhill on the cement path toward the Neck. We will finally take a slightly hidden single track off the path down and towards the Cecelia parking.

Rendezvous and start time **NOTE NEW START TIME**

We meet at Cecelia parking by 06h25 to start at 06h30 sharp. Please try and arrive early as the small parking area gets full quickly.

Terrain and distance
Degraded jeep track, single track, tar, cement, scrambly climbing, fast downhills (It's all sorts this week)

The route is around 10 to 12km and probably less than 3 hours (but please don't sue me on this)

Groups
Gaelene will lead the notorious power walkers. Depending on the numbers we will have the usual medium and possibly a faster group.

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top, rain jacket- weather dependent, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

At this time of year, the weather can change fast.

See you there!
